Sounds a bargain, but as any woman will tell you buying something because it is cut price isn't always the best decision. If we wouldn't pay full price for Milner, do we want him when he is on sale. I have admired Milner in the past, but we should only consider him if we think he will be improved at Saints. I suspect he will be snapped up by someone else anyway, so may be a moot point.

Yeah I imagine tons of clubs will be after him.

As the article states he's not flashy (some of the city mob call him 'thrill a minute milner) but he works bloody hard. To me he's kinda like davis but with a bit more of a attacking mindset, and would a great addition.

I agree we shouldnt be buying for status sake but i hope this deal...however unlikely, happens.

Players should be wary of being signed to increase % of home grown players...need to be really sure they will get game time. The lack of home-grown players in any team suggests they are more into buying success than developing players.

Absolutely. The article I was reading, with this subject in, referred to the scenario where neither player would get much game time. A similar situation to Micah Richards time at ManC.

That to me is clearly made up. JWP is about the only ex-Academy player the papers are aware of now, and he isn't even starting for Saints. There is no other reason his name appears in that story other than they want to prolong the exodus story.

As for Jay, would prefer he goes City than Spurs - apart from meaning we'd never have to face him in an opposition team, it would tell us exactly what his priorities in life were.

Right, this is my opinion of how the players we bought compared to the ones that left:

Bertrand = Shaw. Shaw may have more potential but at the moment they're about at the same level.

Alderweireld = Lovren. Both very good defenders.

Tadic < Lallana. Only because Tadic is unproven in a strong league. He got far more assists that Lallana last season. He could be just as good if not better.

Pelle > Lambert. Lambert's on the decline now and Pelle is just as good as Lambert in the air, and has also shown some good link up play.

Chambers is probably the only big loss as he has great potential.

Er....I'd like to reconsider all but the bottom one. Although I did say Tadic could be better, and he's proved he is.
