Pretty sure he's just here as cover for Noel Hunt Spanish! He's not here for 90 minutes each week.

See how it works out I guess!

He looked a handy player at this level a few years back but hasn't played regularly in recent seasons. To be fair to the guy he has got Rhodes and Gestede to get infront of, probably 2 of the best strikers in the division. Think he can play out wide aswell

I think Varney is same as Noel Hunt - wide in a 3. He'll be far better than Sammon in this system. Sammon played very well in a 2 for Rotherham v us but out wide in a 3 he was absolute gash.

    Varney signing now confirmed..

Also, disappointing news on N. Hunt being out for the rest of the season http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/26869/hunt-could-be-out-for-the-season
interestingly the Varney deal is for an initial month, with the option to extend to the maximum 93 days.

Big opportunity for Varney here, really hope he takes it. But I suppose If he doesn't, then maybe Mick has other irons in the fire as a contingency to bring in after Varney's month with us <ok>

Does anyone know how long McG is out for? As for Varney I want him to do well for us just as I want all our players to do well, if he improves our squad I will be as delighted as everyone else, I just don't want a repeat of the Connor Sammon loan.

Clever management from Mick, Hunt + Hyam out = Bring two identical players in.

Chaplow is a potential masterstroke if he can play how he is capable of doing.

Both low risk anyway - not the absolute :O :O class we're after, but should do a job.

We likely to sign one or two more or will that be us done?

solid players, they will work their socks off to try and earn a contract with us. that's what you need in the championship.

Is Chaplow more central or could he replace tabb on the left?

Chaplow is basically a better version of Luke Hyam in every department. Very happy with this signing!

I'll keep open-minded about Chaplow and Varney until I've seen them play a few games, but my first impression is one of cautious disappointment. They don't seem to offer anything different to what we have. Chaplow is a defensive-minded midfielder, not the spark of creativity we need. Both Tabb and Skuse can do his job, and do it better from what I've seen of Chaplow before. Varney is a technically limited player. He'd probably make good foil for Murphy as he can knock down long balls and he's impressive in the air. Having said that, he lacks technique and pace, which is what we need up front and out wide, where he can also play.

Still, I've been wrong about McCarthy's deals before. Hopefully if they come on today and make an impact.

Chaplow & Varney are the type of players we can afford, Varney is a replacement for Hunt, Chaplow is cover for Htam, both similar in style of play.

as you say lets judge them in a few games time!
