The Transfer Window is to shut before Premier League season starts next year according to this report - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...ion-window-shut-premier-league-season-starts/ #aboutbloodytime
Ah yea, posted about this on the General Football Thread the other day. I put my fors and agaisnt on there.
Just seen this update - 'Talks to close transfer window are well advanced, says EFL chief executive' Read all about it - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41164976
Problem we have (and I think it's highlighted in the article above) is that different countries in Europe have different window closure dates, so English teams would be subject to bids from abroad after our window was shut. Imagine, for example, if our window shut on Aug 5th, and on Aug 6th, PSG came in with an offer of £9m for Steven Naismith. If we (reluctantly ) let him go, we'd be unable to replace him until the following slot in January. Our season would be plunged into deep crisis for 5 months!!
I still think this problem is overstated. If the English clubs stress the point to their players and agents, that they will not be sold after the English window closes then they can just hold on to them. Look at this summer, plenty of star players agitating for moves that didn't happen because the parent club refused to sell, if a player is contracted then the club still has the power to tell them to stay put. If the English clubs are steadfast with this then the foreign clubs will also know that it will be futile to try after the window closes. (Unless for unsettling purposes or for a player surplus to requirements) £9m for Naismith! Yes please, I'd take 9p to get him off the wage bill Bah!
Maybe, but if another club shows genuine interest in a player, he knows they'll probably be back in when the next slot opens. Is he going to bust a gut and risk injury for a parent club he might not be at in 5 months time? I think maybe not, so unsettling indeed.
Unsettled or not, that can happen today with situations like Coutinho or sanchez. Far better to resolve it before the first 3 or 4 games are missed with them sulking or injured Depending on the player they would hopefully come back and knuckle down for those 5 or more months. Bah!
Hooray, sanity and common sense prevails (for once!) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...ubs-agree-close-summer-transfer-window-start/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41188235
