The squad was told at Xmas not to expect changes in January, and “we are all in this together” blah blah and need to stick together. Deals for Hylton & Potts need to be seen in that context. It’s not even going to be “one in one out” in January, it would have to be two or three out first. Given how bad most of our squad members who can’t get in the side are …it’s difficult to see.
I believe so. Charlie boy was loaned the dough at the outset so needs to manage the peanuts he has left. Spending millions on something worth a quid hasn’t helped his cause. Expect some players to go but they’ll be our best players no doubt who are probably no good around the place anyway.
Luton Town striker Cauley Woodrow is being linked with a money move to a League One side in January. I have always been impressed with him when I have seen him play for the Hatters, at 30 years of age he is one of the few Luton players who would improve our team. He’s playing regularly as well, which is an added bonus. But …and there’s always a but …nobody will be surprised at the two L1 clubs Woodrow is linked with today - neither of them are us. Quelle surprise…both Birmingham City & Wrexham are interested in signing him in January. When will the penny ever drop with our cretinous SMT & low energy fans that Birmingham & Wrexham are doing it exactly the right way - the only way you ever get out of this league is by buying from a position of strength.
He's never played for a London Club as far as I can see. More likely to go to Mansfield, where he has played before eleven years ago. Began his career at Lincoln but no first team appearances there. And he's 34.
A 34 year old from non league would perfectly complement Potts & Hylton. We are in Southall / Nimer territory now - how we all laughed 3 years ago when they signed freebies like McGeady & Davis. As for Duchatelet , it’s becoming increasingly clear by the day that he was by far our best owner of the past 15 years. By far. And yet, Wally Life still has their laughable “We Got Roland Out” banner up. As if what came after him is something to be proud of. Dads Army has overdosed on the gummies….like fvck you did.
The man who split CAFC from everything it owned and then sold the gutted Club to a couple of crooks for £1. The man who made us tenants in the stadium we used to own. The man who destroyed everything that fans fought for to get us back to the Valley in 1992. Our best owner of the past 15 years. While lifelong Charlton fans are ridiculed for opposing him. Words fail me at this point - which is probably for the best.
He funded a promotion team in 2019 Lardi. A team where all but one of them went on to have careers at a higher level. Can we say that about today’s lot ?
What did he fund in 2020? Given the choice of Roland & his grinning liar of a CEO or administration, points deduction and relegation in December 2013, I would have taken the latter every time. I still would. We would have bounced back by now. With the vindictive old Scrote as our Landlord Charlton Athletic will never recover. He is the reason we are in this pathetic state in 2025. Not those hapless stooges currently polishing their arses in our board room... correction, in his board room. Sorry This is off-topic. I know I fall for this lure every time and my views are well known. I'll restrict myself pureliy to transfer related comments from now on in this thread.
I know Charlton fans from other places look in at this thread, so it’s worth reiterating that the squad was told before Xmas that there would be nothing happening in January. That’s being played out on the first nine days - even rent a gob Methven & quote happy NJ haven’t come out with the usual platitudes about how we are looking to strengthen. It’s because they are not - because they are skint. Methven’s piggy bank was filled by the investors last summer and he’s spaffed most of it ….and now it’s empty. And thanks to the pathetic rule changes introduced by the EFL in part because of Walter Mittys like CM…we will be forced to spend 40% less of what was already very little in Summer 2025. Last Summer the SMT were about to have runny egg streaming down their collective faces before the sale of Alfie May bailed them out & topped up the tiny transfer kitty - you don’t have to be Nostradamus or even Bexley Boy to predict who will be the Alfie May of this Summer …. I think we will shift 2/3 out at the last min on desperation loans - probably Edun, Tennai & Taylor, and in return will sign one free transfer ageing donkey free agent journeyman, given that NJ doesn’t like loans. What a time to be alive.
I'd rather sign an old donkey, they get shorter contracts than the young ones like Ahadme. To quote George Orwell- "Donkeys live a long time".
Charlton TV on 1st Feb. Interview with Andy Scott. Terry Smith: Ummm …..errr ….so Andy …a really positive January transfer window …no signings and nothing spent, just what Charlie wanted I guess. What are your thoughts ?” Andy Scott: “Yeh, delighted Tel. We had some really good conversations with some really exciting talent …just couldn’t quite get any deals over the line, because we had no budget. January is always tough. You’ll next hear from me in April, when we are are begging Season Ticket holders to renew”.
