Small is better than L1 level , this is his agent stoking up interest. I’m going to buy a lounge pass to assist our effort to keep him.
My Sunderland-supporting friend goes to quite a few Orient games because the beer is good, so is the price and it's served in a glass in the real ale bar. That could attract me.
It would not be surprising if some Clubs show interest in Alfie May. Credit to Dobbo, but (especially to outsiders) May was the one bright star in a dreadful Charlton team this past season. He's 30 years old, but clearly not over the hill yet. If someone offers a couple of £million for him, he will surely be gone. And will that money be re-invested in the squad? I have little confidence that it would.
can we keep the Elfs schtick to the 14 other threads created for that purpose ? let’s keep this thread as the preserve of the 4 posters on here who want to talk about football.
Firstly no one is going to offer a couple of million for May. But if we did sell him, which I doubt, I think it would be invested in the team.
I don't think Jones is entirely convinced by May. I don't think he fits into the style he wants to play. But we are lucky to have a player who can score over 20 goals a season. It has been a while since we had that.
I know a fan who attended the POTY dinner and was told that Nathan Jones & Alfie May clash. That said, it’s a good manager’s job to make a working relationship profitable with any player. Alex Ferguson fell out with half of his squad during his time , and it never did him any harm. PS @lardiman You have got to factor in May’s age & the level he’s played at. He cost £180,000 from Cheltenham Town for a reason….
I think it was after the Stevenage game NJ said "If we're still playing like that in a year's time I won't have done my job", so I'm hoping for a change of style from the one which achieved the goal of keeping us safe by making us hard to beat. And I hope that style includes Alfie, we need his goals.
I hope you're right and nobody who wants May will be able to afford to take him off us. But some silly money is coming to League One. Wrexham could take him if they wanted him. But I assume they'll be after proven Championship quality players. And haven't Wycombe just got themselves a billionaire owner? They could snap him up to spearhead a promotion push. Not saying I have any evidence that May will be bought, but I think someone hell-bent on getting up to the 2nd tier might think about it. After all, his goal record at this level in 2023-24, and for a struggling team, is there for all to see.
And we should also remember that the new owners didn’t want Alfie, as they didn’t rate him and were going to bring in better strikers. Someone remind me how that went….
