Got to laugh at the newco fans buying into Charles greens excuses for why they hardly signed anybody. Green said the hunt for players had been held up as both he and manager Ally McCoist had faced Scottish Football Association disciplinary hearings on Thursday. "Alistair and I have, unfortunately, spent six hours in Hampden for the wrong reasons, when what we ought to have been doing is speaking to agents and speaking to players," he said. Green also claimed the club were being hampered in making signings by players who rejected a move to the relaunched Rangers still being included in their squad list with the SFA. A consortium led by Green reformed Rangers after the previous incarnation could not be saved from liquidation but a number of players refused to have their contracts transferred. Rangers are seeking compensation for five of these players. "Ahead of this transfer ban being put in place, we still have the ludicracy of not being able to sign the number of players we'd like to bring in, because the players who walked out on their contract are still included in our quota," added Green. "We're only allowed 22 players over the age of 21, and five of those spaces are being filled by people like Steven Naismith, who played for Everton against Manchester Utd last Monday. How crazy is that?" Nah its because you ain't got any money just like whytey boy.
So 12 out and 4 in including Forster, who we had already. Wages reduced significantly I would imagine overall and a transfer profit of £2.5-£3m. Lawell will be delighted!
Think it has been a good transfer window. Financial gain by reducing wages should not be underestimated as it can 1. Be used to reduce our loan whichnhasmto be paid back by 2015. 2. Used to finance future purchases. We lost a lot of players who really did not measure up, but best of luck to them. Read some other forums where Celtic fans are looking for a big signing, but to be realistic one £5million player is not going to make a difference to our CL chances, given that one of our competitors just sold a player for £16m. The main purpose of us signing players is to win the SPL title. This does not require or attract top quality players. Fedor is a great loan and a bit surprising, but I doubt we can afford him long term. He on the other hand will put hi self in the European window by playing for us and a few good performances will up his value both in terms of his own wages and transfer fee. We cannot expect to bring in top quality CDs. Potential is the best we can hope for and in Ambrose we may or may not have that, but he is about the level we can expect. Gone are the days of the Suttons and Hartsons. Bottom line is that we want a club to support and not watch it go the way of the club formerly known rangers.
Bit underwhelming but let's hope the new bhoys 'Miku' and Ambrose hit the ground running. Not sure why we need another goalkeeper though. Apparently (1) we're still working on bringing in another striker before Monday. Apparently (2) Gary O'Conner has tweeted that we tried to get him on loan. Please God, don't let O'Conner be the mystery signing.
jay bothroyd signed on loan for sheff wed. if only he hadnt been a greedy **** he could be playing champions league rather than championship
Celtic set to sign Lassad Nouioui, former Deportivo de La Coruña forward. 6 ft 2, aged 26, scored 24 in 99 games for Deportivo and has three caps for Tunisia.
"Spanish side Levante say they have beaten Celtic to the signature of Lassad Nouioui" says baldy bloke from the BBC.
more likely he would have been sitting on bench, or in the stand. Especially if we get our Tuinisian striker it would appear we have had a good window. All the nerves and fears on friday all unfounded.
Patrick and Tam can sign pre-contracts elsewhere next week. Rumours about Paddy heading off to the USA. Tam Rogne is IMO the best defender we have. He is just prone to injury and the attitude over a new contract wasn't the best. Anyone else would be taking a serious punt to sign him on pre contract..... I'd like him to stay but if he gots to go, then he gots to go.
I like Rogne but if he thinks he can do better elsewhere then the best of British luck to him, I'm sure he will find that the grass is not always greener as so many before have. Apart from a few select "Giant" clubs, there really is only one way to go after playing for Celtic and that's down.
