But only £26mil less than United.

To be fair if anyone was to skim read the press, they'd assume United had massively outspent every other team in the PL during this transfer window. City and Chelsea's sizeable investments seem to have been overlooked!

See Brother, agree with you on this season. But if you take the last 3 seasons - which is actually your current squad - you have easily surpassed City & Chelsea.

All 3 have spent a hell of a lot but Chelsea have been relatively frugal in comparison over the last few windows. United's spend comes on the back of 2 massive summers past plus breaking the world record this summer. Plus how much are you also paying in wages to get Ibra on a free? (that won't get taken into account in the 150 million figure).

Or one and a half Moussa Sissoko's <laugh>

This window has been ****ing nuts.
Everyone will be wanting to come to the PL next summer.
:D

The money that is takes to secure average players is quite frightening. I kind of get a Pogba type deal. Shows intent, he's a top draw player and marketable. But 30 million for Sissoko from a championship side, 50 million for Stones who can't even get in the England team ahead of Cahill and Smalling. Berahinho can't even get a move in his last year because West Brom still want about 20 million! Madness.

Me and my mate were discussing this the other day. What would Lampard in his prime be worth now....a midfielder who gets 20 + goals a season? He's more effective and a match winner than Pogba is ever likely to be.

Exactly, 90M pounds is new 15M pounds in this day and age.
By that - Sissoko is 6M, Luiz is 5.3M <laugh>

The 3 massive summers followed a sustained period of relative frugality.

Ibra's wages have got nothing to do with him coming on a free. He was out of contract.

Chelsea's wage bill was higher than United's last season.

I am sure he meant huge Sign on bonus for Ibra and not wages <ok>

Even ordinary players command few Million pounds as sign on bonus when they join on free. Ibra's would be greater than few million surely.

No arguing, just pointing out that the myth that United's wage bill is huge compared to other clubs is just that, a myth.

Point I was making is that if you get a player of his stature on a 'free' you will be paying for it elsewhere. Either in higher than normal wages or a huge signing on fee. So that needs to be taken into account to an extent when comparing what the clubs have spent. Of the 4 players we signed, I would expect 2 of them at least to be on 'modest' wages and the other 2 will be on nothing compared to Pogba and Ibra.

But ultimately the money Chelsea and the Manchester clubs are spending is mental. Also heard Villa and Newcastle spent over 100 million combined. That's from the championship!
