Why would anyone pay them £8m when they don't rate him. He was fit when he went there. and 3 years younger. Yet apparently he was only worth £ 4m when they bought him from us.
He's far more experienced now, in dealing with injuries and life's other injustices. I think we got the best of him, good but not all that, he couldn't play the target man role and was at his best with OBZ doing that along side him, but it was difficult to fit them both in the team. He was also out injured a lot back then. He got us some goals and was electric in a home game with Man City under the lights at LR, which I think he started with OBZ, and ended 3-3.

David Mac WLS has little Smyth likely to go to Wycombe on loan.. Probably a good move as it doesn't seem he's ready for the Championship yet, at least.

Also has us as going for Jordan Hugill. I can't really remember seeing Hugill play live and his stats don't seem great for a striker - 23 in 103 for PNE. 6 in 37 last year for Middlesbrough. What am I missing?

No idea mate, yet rumour is there are a number of Clubs interested in him for some reason, so it's hard to see him coming to us unless he's super rich already.

I think he was highly thought of when still at Preston. He scored 13 in 47 in 2016/17 before moving to West Ham for £10m. Didnt get a look in there the following season, then they shipped him out on loan to Boro for 2018/19. Picked up 7 in 41 games there (17 as sub).

Looks like he would do a job for us and knows this level well.

Smythe has gone on loan to Wycombe. His progression is poisoned by the fact everyone thinks he is too small and too lightweight for the championship.
Also Shodipo has risen above him in our ranking anyway.

I also suspect we are making way for McKay and Judge to come in

Judge Nutmeg and his Wheel of Justice? Brilliant!

Even more pressure to get some strikers in now, they must be confident they’ll find someone

Not sure Smyth going makes much difference to the central striker situation.
We have plenty like him who can attack from out wide.
We need a centre forward, especially as, on the evidence of yesterday, we are going to get crosses in front out wide.
Austin would be perfect for that, but, as Oslo says, not really suitable as a target man or lone striker.

This makes interesting reading, we're apparently the least changed squad in the Championship, our players have the least minutes played last season...
