You've misjudged their 'respect' for him. They've got a soft spot for him - a bit like we did with Cody McDonald for example. Some of our fans said the fat lard bucket Becchio deserved a chance because he wasn't being played - but the reason he didn't play was because he wasn't good enough. Managers don't freeze good players out of their team - they find a way of accommodating them unless otherwise impossible. Nobody is saying Gayle is rubbish - that's your word, not mine – but he's no better than what we have and therefore not worthy of spending any sum, let alone £6-10m on him. He's being linked to Championship clubs because realistically that is where he is best suited for his abilities.
This wasn't an attack! I've had long interesting talks with you lots before, I've just added a picture. Usually I react to your transfer info, and discussions. But you seem like your trying to knock me down with that reply

I disagree - I'm positive he's a better finisher than either Grabban or Jerome (who don't forget fluffed chances last year quite a bit but got more game time than Grabban - I'm seem to remember his SOT/Goal ratio was surprisingly worse). Not better than Hooper, but works harder. All round I agree he's not going to be first choice, but I think he'd be in the mix.

And don't forget that while he scored 7 13/14 season and 5 this last, he benched mostly. His goal rate is about a goal every 165 mins, which (and I know this is cheating) would be 20 odd if he played every minute of every match and kept that rate up! But fudging his stats aside, it's way better than any of ours bar perhaps Hooper.

The thing that would put me off would be the price tag. But then I don't think we're going to find anyone better than what we've got with our budget, so we may have to make do.

But that is precisely my point rob. Clubs like us with a tight budget, cannot afford to use a big chunk of it on a player just to 'make do'. I really think a lot of people remember that stellar night against Liverpool and are slightly taken in by it. I'm not sure there's much in it between him and Grabban (and we all know how much I rate him ;)), and I'd rather keep him than spend £6-10m on Gayle who might, just, edge him down the pecking order but still be behind Jerome. We're better off keeping the money.

Where's Cove to point out an Eredivisie striker who will cost us peanuts and score 15 goals?

Ricky is going to need to show up to the party yes.

Suggestions from the Belgian league: Idrissa Sylla, Nicholas Castillo, Neeskens Kibano

Dutch league, maybe Tomas Necid?
