You have almost proved my point with that exact comment. We can't afford to keep trying to utilise him at the cost of being relegated again. That is just mindless to play him just because he's on high wages and no one will buy him. He has had long enough to prove himself!! If he is good enough for the Premiership why did we not keep him in the team last season and let him rip the championship apart with his prolific goal scoring abilities? He's not going to suddenly turn into this fantastic striker that we all hoped for when we signed him just because we are willing it to happen.
I didn't say anything like what you said I did. I don't think he should be above anyone in our current squad and I doubt he will be involved in many, if any, games this season. All I'm saying is that while he's here, and while it's pre-season, it makes sense to see how he is doing and to give him his chance to impress. And though he didn't score against West Ham, his performance was encouraging.
I entirely expect him to be sold or moved on at some point before the season starts to be honest, and I wont be disappointed when he does. I'll still hope he comes good until that time.
