A lot of good points made about Brady but at the end of the day it is about what a player is worth to the buying Club. A player that Tony Pulis would pay over the odds for because of his style of play would not attract a bid from Arsene Wenger. If AN feels that he needs Brady to strengthen his side then we might have to pay a bit over the odds for him but if he can get something similar or even better elsewhere for less then just move on. Personally I would rather pay £5m for a good player than save a couple of million signing a lesser one and mentioning Wenger again let us not forget the number of times he has haggled to try and get a player he wanted at a ' realistic price' only to see another Club nip in and sign the player for the asking price. Surely it is simply a question of how much AN feels Brady is worth to the Club

That's true, 1950, but AN also has to make the most of his transfer budget as a whole. It isn't just about Brady.

Christ, if it stalls and eventually fails over 'wage demands', he won't be the most popular guy around Carrow Road as he winds the remainder of his contract down <yikes>

We should make him work as a waiter in the restaurant, or maybe selling programmes outside the ground.

Using Rob's '3 times the asset value' for Brady would suggest a final value around £4.2m which sounds about right. This could go up to £5m with add ons, but I'd be disappointed if it went much above that and we miss out on another player because ofd it.

It's a strange one. If he doesn't pull up some trees at a club soon he will find himself unable to find any kind of top tier club. He will end up playing in the Dutch second tier or something.

For me, if we can't off-load him he has to given another go. Can't let someone sit there on £40k p/w without even being in the squad.

I'd agree with that Kemp, which probably means we can't make progress on another striker until he's gone.

If we really don't rate him and he offers nothing to the squad, would there be sense in letting him go on a free to get his wages off the books and allow us to sign a proper striker?

I suppose it's all in his hands though, he could just sit there on £40k a week.

Bollocks!

It would be cheaper to pay the balance of his wages for the next year and allow the move to Sporting Lisbon go through.

I know you can't compare the two but if Murphy is worth £4m to a Championship side Brady must be worth £5m to us especially as he would cover 2 of our problem areas.

Just heard Rob Butler's sport bulletin on Radio Norfolk, evidently Toby Alderweireld has; "signed for Tottenham for £5M for an undisclosed fee" <laugh>

See above. They are. It is perfectly legitimate to take the asset valuation, accept that it's a rough, but reasonably reliable estimate, and then multiply it by a number based on what you know about the circumstances.

You'll rarely be bang on, but:
(1) if the club is keen to sell, multiply by 1 (if they are desperate to offload it may well be less)
(2) if the club don't want to sell, but the player only has, say 12 months on his contract, multiply by somewhere between 1.5-3
(3) if the club don't want to sell and they have the player tied to a long term contract then it will probably be over 3 times

Obviously if it's Liverpol you might get as high as four times...

The only thing is that the players over about £10m the multiples get lower (because the risk is greater).

Rob, those multiplications are so ridiculously loose they are pretty much worthless.

It depends. We can't predict the exact price anyway. But they are not worthless at all really when you're gauging whether an opening bid is reasonable and whether newspaper reports are complete rubbish. For example, it helps us dismiss the ludicrous suggestion that Hull were demanding £15m for him (which came from a Hull newspaper I believe) but without it we'd be not really wiser and similarly our supposed opening bid of £2m sounds on the face of it derisory, but actually is pretty much spot on for the bottom end of the scale.

It's just about context. Ultimately, he'll go for whatever someone pays, but at least it sheds some light on the parameters of the negotiations.

'Boro on the verge of paying £4M for Daryl Murphy! ME's back pocket is looking healthy!

Sorry Dave, but do you mean MM????
Looks like 1p5wich could struggle next year if they've just sold 2 of their better players.

REALLY hope RvW and Sporting Lisbon can get their issues resolved and we can move on from this expensive and sorry saga.
Also hope DMcN can loosen the purse strings just a little and we do sign Brady. <ok>

No, I meant Marcus Evans, MM won't see any of that! <ok>
