That's not true: he actually said we should've signed Higuain or Cavani to take the goalscoring burden off of Harry's shoulders. So which games do we rest Higuain for so Kane can play?

As for the Chavs and Davies, all I have to say is this: £20m? Add one digit.

And that makes the words of the venerable Stan better does it ?? :)

Is said "digit" the middle one on either hand ??

The full quote makes him look even more of a moron. What did he think we signed Janssen for? Decoration?

Methinks the venerable Stan is criticising Spurs for not buying either of
Higuain/Cavani for their 25m transfer fee + 50K/wk wage costs.

Higuain went to Juve for £75m, not Euro's, Pounds Sterling. I think that makes him the 5th most expensive player ever. He must be on north of £150k per week and is 29 years old. Stan wants to forget his activity in car parks and look at what Spurs are spending on a stadium before he opens his unpleasant mouth.

A year ago they were after Rose and we're told to do one...now they want his understudy and will still be told to do one <laugh>

Am I wrong to not be remotely excited at this news?

I worry that I've turned him into a scapegoat because he is so inept as a captain; and it isn't even his fault that he wears the armband.

He's an excellent goalkeeper with two downsides to his game: distribution and guarding his near post.
I'm not sure how relevant the captaincy is to our team, to be honest.

I've been wondering recently how viable it might be to make Dembele captain. He's right in the thick of things and he strikes me as a player who might have his performances enhanced by being named captain.

Until he decided to poke someone's eye out! <laugh>

I can see what you mean, but I'm not sure that he's got the right mentality, to be honest.
I think that I'd go with Alderweireld. Dependable, calm, reasonably vocal and in the right position.

Toby IMHO has the best traits to be captain, though I don't see him rallying the troops in his talking.

I saw the eye-poke on Costa as legitimate captain behaviour.

Nah, he should've smacked him one at half-time down the tunnel! <laugh>

Vertonghen had the right idea with Costa, as he winds him up and gets him to do utterly stupid things.
The ref "didn't see" any of that though, so he got away with it all. Two elbows and a headbutt, IIRC.

Vertonghen is not far off being as annoying for opponents as Costa i'd say. Good match those 2

I think what annoys me is that the 2 weaknesses we all know about have been present since day 1 and have shown no signs of improvement over 5 years, which is odd given how good the rest of his game is.

I think the collapse at the end of last season highlighted the degree to which a young team needs a field marshall to rally the troops, calm the nerves and keep everyone focused when the pressure is high.
