Gareth Bale: Real Madrid forward set to arrive on Friday for Tottenham move
    By Simon StoneBBC Sport

Why will it breakdown (surely it will - Utd swoop, failure to agree image rights, last minute levying on wages?)

I want it to be announced in one of two ways:

Levy and Mourinho are standing outside the training ground complex looking smug. One of our scouts walks out, putting his phone away.
"Just spoken to his agent, Boss. He'll be here any minute."

The Batmobile pulls into the drive. Mourinho turns to the scout looking angry.
"I told you to get me GARETH Bale!"
Levy faceplams. The scout shuffles nervously, then his eyes widen and he runs away.

Cuts to the inside of the Batmobile.
Gareth and Christian Bale look out the windscreen, as Mourinho chases the scout around, using a corner flag as a spear.

    Or:

Kane and Doherty stand in the carpark of a golf course. One of the employees walks up.
"Ready to play a round, lads?"
"No, we're waiting for one more, mate."

Bale pulls up in his car. Opens the boot and pulls out his clubs in a Wales bag.
    "Now we're ready."

    Alternatively, do this...

...and then have Gareth walk past and ask what they're doing

Also, I think this is worth a mention...

I wonder if we’ll see Bale used centrally on occasion? He’s probably lost a yard of the extreme pace he had but he’s a big man and scored a lot of headers for Real, far more than you’d expect. Could be an interesting option in some games. Don’t think he fits the bill for the backup striker we need but could be another option in the position that might offer more there than Son or Lucas when we’re not just trying to counter.

The Telegraph (but not Matt Law) report we've made an offer for Danny Ings

Oh great, we're going to have a bunch of Southampton berzerkers on here again...

He’s a regular starter for them...can’t see it happening but what a signing if it does...will lay off Levy till March if he pulls it off

Apparently Roma are interested in Lamela.
Imagine a situation where, Lamela, the last man standing from the magnificent 7, and arguably Bale’s replacement, is the man that leaves to make way for... well... Bale.

Ings spent a few years at Pool as the second/ third choice, highly doubt he'd want a similar role here. Plus after last season, you're easily looking at Southampton asking for something like £40m.

Think our best options - especially with the Bale & Reguilon outlay - are going for another Llorente type. Early 30s that won't cost a great deal who understands they'll be primarily an impact sub and cup player. Alternatively another mid-table striker like Ings who doesn't have the same hype as him at the moment, think Wood would be a very decent signing if he were affordable, counts as HG too despite being a Kiwi.

    Full circle.

Not an entirely impossible scenario either. Roma look to be allowing Cengiz Under to join Leicester on a loan deal with purchase option and Zaniolo is likely to be out for the most of the season too, so someone like Lamela could help cover both positions, in Serie A Lamela might be able to be utilised in a more central midfield role if need be too I'd imagine.

Bale driving a THFC branded golf ball into the effergy of a bent over ZZ to the sound of "oh when the Spurs go marching in"

If Spurs haven't looked as this thread for announcement video ideas then they really have missed a trick.

Honestly just getting an absolute unit like Bas Dost in for what would be peanuts in today’s market would be good business IMO. With Bale here we have enough quality around a striker that they literally just need to be a focal point. Bale seemed to be a lot better playing with Ade back in the day than Defoe and I think we’d see similar if we get a Llorente type in again.

If he's only gonna cost £5.5m too it makes so much sense. Proven goal scorer in multiple leagues, won't stand in the way of Parrott's development and provides a decent option to Kane for if he's needing a rest/ needing to come off in a game if he's underperforming. 6'5 as well, right up Jose's street. That sort of fee should leave money left over for a CB too (Kim?), if after Bale and Reguilon we can add someone like Dost and a CB, I'll have never known a window like this. I did say a couple weeks back I felt we were acting skint with the aim to explode but Bale/ Reguilon/ Striker and possibly a CB would be even more than I'd have thought.

Bas Dost would suit me fine plus a few lessons from Bigsmithy on how an old style centre forward should act
