I’d say Hojbjerg is our most likely option, especially considering the circumstances.

As Locky said Gueye is 30 so won’t appeal to Levy to spend big on.

Neves would cost an absolute bomb, I can’t imagine our net spend being above £60m this window and I think Neves alone would command roughly a £50m fee. Besides, despite the fact I think he’s a brilliant player, I’m not sure he’s the right type of DM we need to compliment Gio and Tanguy.

Hojbjerg on the other hand seems like a ball winning battler, which is what Dier/ Wanyama were at their best albeit I don’t think he’s as good (least not yet) as they were. He’s also got leadership characteristics, something we sorely lack. We have a lot players who certainly lead by example but it’s a different ball game to be a leader on the pitch and rally the troops. The fact he also has just one year remaining on his deal means there’s room for some bargaining, especially if KWP can be included in any offer.

Wolves won't sell us Neves. Why would they? They don't need the money and his agent is the club's.

Thiago Silva leaving PSG at the end of the season, been linked with Everton, Arsenal and Wolves. Would you consider him for Spurs?

One thing I noticed the other day: Taurine FC Leipzig reportedly can't afford the £25m fee to make Angelino's loan from The Sheikh Mansour Team permanent

I do hope that Levy is sitting in his chair, cracking his knuckles, and preparing to go elbow-deep on the bastards...

Must admit I don’t really watch Ligue 1 much so haven’t seen how well he can still play at his age. But from an experience perspective alone, 100% I’d take him. Been one of the best defenders of this generation and a great leader too.

The one thing that does need pointing out is that PSG's defenders have one of the easiest jobs in the world as their midfield is a killing machine that little is getting past - but if you dropped one of their CBs in our team right now they'd look a lot less composed as our midfield is about as resilient as a trifle that's been left on the windowsill for three weeks in July

    Saints fan in peace

Been reading the hysteria on News Now about Spurs buying PEH from us for £35m, what are you more serious guys view on this purchase
We Saints fans are somewhat surprised that you want him tbh esp for that fee.
He is a good professional, very serious character and a pretty stern captain. He is a decent defensive midfielder although does get caught in possession in awkward places at times and isn't quick enough to recover. He does like backwards and sidewards passing. His shooting is truly dreadful and when he does go up the pitch. Honestly don't think he is any better than Dier and certainly not Winks. I would happily swap him for Winks but if you are going to pay £35m for him 99% of Saints fans will happily drive him up to North London
I am really not out to cause trouble but we are amused by the comments on the News Now sites

He's massively improved under Hasenhuttl and we desperately need a holding midfielder, but the price does seem steep.
He's got a year left on his contract and the current situation will drive prices down dramatically, in my opinion.
His agent has previous with Mourinho though, so I think there might be something to the rumours.

We'll give you Kyle Walker-Peters and Tommy Forecast for him. Deal? <whistle>

It’s good to get a more informed opinion on PEH. He has a rep as being pretty tidy in possession so it’s good to hear more from people who actually watch him every week.

I think the enthusiasm for him here (or at least from me) is that we just don’t have a DM. Dier is really a CB - even when he played in midfield he dropped off between the CBs a lot of the time to effectively make a back 3 - and it seems that in defence is where his long term future lies. Winks is scrappy and works hard but doesn’t have the physicality or positional discipline to really play DM, and as many posters on here will tell you, his passing and general work as a progressive midfielder has somewhat regressed after he broke into the team. I’m actually surprised to see fans of another club talking him up in comparison to PEH to be honest, but again, perhaps that’s only natural as I doubt we watch each other’s teams that much.

The quoted price does surprise me though given he’s only got a year left on the contract. But we need a competent DM, and Mourinho will probably be happy to compromise on one who will do the defensive work well without also needing to be the second coming of Pirlo.

Yeah I saw the £35m rumours too but I can't see us paying that mate, not for someone with just a year left on their deal. If he ends up a Spurs player I'd imagine the fee will be a lot lower, especially if you guys decide you want KWP on a permanent deal as he'd no doubt be a makeweight in any offer.

If Dier was at the level he was 18 or so months ago we wouldn't be in desperate need for a new DM but injuries and illness has battered him to the point he's not even a shadow of the player he once was.

As for swapping Hojbjerg with Winks, I'm probably the last one you want answering that as I'd bite your hand off. My view isn't widely shared on here about Winks though but it's safe to say I'm not his biggest fan, just ask @The Huddlefro <laugh>

For what it's worth I'm not even completely sold on Hojbjerg but considering the current market and our desperate need for a DM, I think Hojbjerg ticks a fair few boxes and that makes him a pretty desirable target.

Even as one of the most ardent Winks fans on here I would have to admit he’s not really progressed. He’s a useful squad player for us, but shouldn’t be starting. And he’s definitely not a DM in the traditional sense of the role.

I agree with DH here though, even if PEH isn’t perfect, he’s a good solution to our problem. Again, the quoted price surprised me but there should be some room for work there especially if we look at including players in the deal. I would be surprised to see Winks being one of those players but you never know.

Personally I would much prefer to play Skippy than dish out 35m.

I like Skipp a lot, but I'd like us to have someone more experienced than him who he can learn from.
A Davids-esque signing would be ideal, for me, but I've no idea who that would be now.

Our whole midfield seems rather unbalanced and incompatible, to be honest.
How do Winks, Sissoko, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Fernandes or Skipp fit together as a pairing or group?

It's bizarre how our academy keeps producing one of the same type of player, for example a few years back it was ball-retaining CMs like Winks and Onomah, now it's ball recycling DMs like Skipp and White and ball-playing CBs like Tanganga, Eyoma and ***an-Walcott

I’d like to see him get more game time for sure. But a more experienced player to compete with for the next few years would sit well with me for a position we have nobody else to fill. Skipp is only 19, it’s easy to forget.

I’d be amazed if we spent £35m straight up. Given the length of contract he’s got left surely it’ll be more like £15-20m with a player like KWP or even Luke Amos, who is getting forgotten in all of this, going the other way.

Might be worth going for Weigl from Benfica, despite him only joining them in January.
Their fans attacked their team bus last week and he was injured.
It's a rather sensitive subject for him, given that he was on the Dortmund bus when it was bombed.

Whenever the transfer window opens it;s going to be a fantastic time for clubs without scruples who want to prey on clubs who have been operating on razor-thin margins

...what's that? Taurine FC Leipzig are having trouble finding £25m? UNLEASH THE LEVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I don't think that they're skint.
They'll have £53m from Werner's sale, but I don't think that they believe Angelino is good value.
It looks likely that Upamecano is going to leave too, so they've got a lot of rebuilding to do.
Left-back won't be a major priority for them.

I was quite surprised he went to Benfica tbh, not a huge fee either. Thought he was very highly rated at Dortmund.

He’s got 4 years on the contract though so unless he forces his way out because of that incident, it would likely be a tricky one.
