To be fair, he has moved clubs repeatedly, so some of that is a natural consequence of his own transfers. He was at Genoa for 229 days and they had three different managers. His year at Milan had another three. Makes Watford seem like a nice stable place to be a coach, doesn't it?
This caught my eye. 'The full-back explained that he has struggled to regain the form he showed prior to a knee injury in January 2017 that required surgery and left him sidelined for nine months.' Agreed, that's 3 years below your best. Spurs fans noticed this (the media seemed oblivious) and during that 3 years you didn't help your case with your unguarded comments. Even now you do not seem to link your lack of form with your move to Newcastle. Perhaps he has believed the media in their descriptions of him as a player. What's the phrase; Wake up and smell the coffee Danny. You will do well to retain a place at Newcastle and that surely should be your goal now that Bruce has handed you a well intended life line.
I think one thing I can definitely say about Rose is that he's certainly unique. Don't think I've known a player to openly speak out about pretty much anything and everything at their club/ in their personal life. In ways it's refreshing, because as fans you like to see the views of the players good or bad - and not just the views of the players being told what to say by the club - but equally you feel at times saying to yourself "Danny, just shut up on this one!" . Mental health issues - ✓ Hitting back at Ruud Gullit - ✓ Mocking Arsenal player's celebrations after we got 'revenge' in the cup a few weeks later - ✓ Telling the funny story of Poch putting him up for sale when really it was about getting into the England team - ✓ Only finding one decent chip shop in London, which is kind of true, because a lot are **** round here lol - ✓ Moaning at chances when Ekotto was first choice - X Criticising club's wage structure and 30+ policy - X Having to Google new signings - X Moaning about lack of chances under Jose despite admitting form was poor - X
Interesting. I'm amazed it took so long for a PL club to move for him. His record at Ajax is superb and he is CL proven.
Yep. It is bizarre. Especially after his performances in the CL last season. Meanwhile crud like Wilfried Zaha and Pepe are going for circa £70m. For what it's worth, I'm glad we got Stevie over Ziyech. Cheaper and a lot younger.
Yeah Ndombele, Lo Celso and Bergwijn are all the ideal age, hopefully spend their peak years at Spurs and spend a long time in N17. Ziyech on the other hand, you’d be looking at 2-3 seasons max
To be fair, only The Gooners were going to pay anything like that for those two...provided that they were available on no deposit/pay over 10 years terms.
Here's the thing: the fact that Ajax don't seem too fussed about him leaving is the real story here, because the windfall they got for de Ligt and de Jong last summer has already been invested in future-proofing the team with Quincy Promes banging them in this season, and the windfall for Ziyech will no doubt be invested in replacing David Neres and/or Andre Onana, and that's before the likely windfall they'll get for van der Beek this summer Make no mistake, this is a good move for Chelsea if it goes through...but it also works out pretty damn well for Ajax - and the thing with that it's not the first time in the last year where what looks like a good move for Chelsea was an even better move for the selling club, as Pulisic looked like a good signing for Chelsea this time last year but Dortmund did far better out of it as that allowed them to sign Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard, and those two have been key players for them this season to the point that Hazard is keeping Erling Braut Haaland out of the team right now And it's hardly the first time Dortmund have used Premier League money to rebuild (because it's not like Bayern pay a penny for their players...) as one summer they lost Gundogan and Mkhitarian to various parts of Manchester (and I remember thinking Man Utd got a potential gem at the time) and their response was...to sign Ousmane Dembele for chicken feed while using that extra income to bring Gotze back to the club Similar happened to us, too: back in 2014 Roma knew they would have to sell one of their crown jewels of the previous season, namely Miralem Pjanic or Erik Lamela...and with us paying handsomely for Lamela (and PSG for Marquinhos) they not only had the cash to sign replacements but also upgrade other areas of the squad and buy a few long-term prospects So the moral of the story is that, if you're bidding for a player and the club seem only too happy to listen to your offer, ask yourself which players they already have lined up - and why you haven't scouted them
Looks like Sancho to Utd too. Two good signings for both sides, though I imagine Utd are gonna have to pay through the roof for Sancho, wouldn't be surprised if it's north of £100m.
Surely City will be back in for Sancho, they need something big this summer to close the gap on Liverpool.
Defence is what they need though, they’re pretty stacked going forwards. Need at least 1 CB, probably a pair of fullbacks too.
Depends if he'd wanna go back there. Plus if City are spending big money in the summer it's gotta be on the defence, surely? Laporte is their only elite level defender and they also lost a great captain last summer. If they're to get back on the same level as Pool, that's where they need to improve.
Same goes for United. The only missing piece up front is a proper Lukaku replacement - something Sancho is very much not. After that, their problems are creativity at CM, (Pogba is almost certainly on his way out), CB and LB.
