Bergwijn is a canny signing, for my money. Young player at a good price who will help us, particularly with his explosiveness on the counter-attack. Plus he’ll provide competition to Son (who is a streaky player and off the boil right now) and Moura, who is just plain inconsistent. Plus Sonny is the most likely of our star players to leave this summer so sensible to get a promising young replacement.
Looks like Piatek (Sp?) is going to Berlin. We do need a specialist centre forward still - to rest and replace Kane when out.
It's a bit worrying. Apparently the fee is £23m. Are we really quibbling over that? Putting it plainly: the difference between finishing 5th and CL qualification is precisely that amount - and that's simply for turning up in the group stage. We have pretty much got no hope achieving that without a focal point up front. So are we just broke? Or immensely stubborn?
I suppose it is possible that the loan for the stadium has conditions on how much cash we can spend. We've already shelled out £50m with much lower incomings so perhaps we have some constraints.
I'm telling you both (you and @C. Kane ) - don't rule out Mr. "I can't help that I'm gorgeous" joining you. Mourinho is a morally bankrupt human being. As is Olivier Giroud. It's a match made in hea-, err...hell. He's even purportedly said any potential backlash from Arsenal or Chelsea fans wouldn't prevent him from joining you. Stranger things have happened. And now that Piatek is on his way to Berlin, this move could very much become a reality.
Rose deal looking closer, loan with option to buy. Seems to be the “in thing” in the past two windows these loans and options deals. Try before you buy.
Aye mate it could well be unless we go back in for Willian Jose or someone else gets snapped up in a quick deal. The Bergwijn one, despite having an interest in him for about 18 months, was done within about 3 days and when we signed Llorente a couple years back it was done within 24-48 hours so I’m holding a bit of hope we’ll have someone else lined up.
Not sure if this has already been raised, do we pronounce Steven Bergwijn's name Bergwin or Berg wine ?
