100% with you. Personally I don’t even see what a two or a three man midfield will make much difference to him. If anything I’d argue he’d be worse in a midfield three as there’d likely be more pressure for him to be a creative force seeing as the team loses the number 10 role which Eriksen occupied for the best part of 7 years. Relying on Winks over Eriksen would be suicidal. If we go to a three man midfield, for me it has to have two creative players and an anchor. Ideally Tanguy and Gio supported by hopefully a new DM - or Oli Skipp if Jose ever feels like giving him a chance.
The various correspondents of FootballDotLondon were asked to name the three players they hoped we sign this January Their takes were as hot as a cup of cold vomit... Alastair Gold Max Aarons Hakim Ziyech Dries Mertens Lee Wilmot Jack Butland Nordi Mukiele Callum Wilson Rob Guest Merih Demiral Dries Mertens Danny Ings So which one of them will fix the gaping hole in the middle of our midfield?
Gary Rowett has confirmed he’d be interested in signing Clarke on loan. That’d be pretty good for all parties, keeps him close to the club as well.
Considering there is so many positions that need fixing, a central midfielder is low down on the priorities because the club are hoping that Ndombele and Lo Celso will come good and they can somehow make the midfield work without having a ‘proper’ DM. Realistically Spurs need to buy a DM, ST, RB, LB, CB and GK to be good again, big rebuild ahead and will probably take 2-3 windows.
If I worked for FootballDotLondon 1.) I'd constantly refer to the site as that, until it drives them insane 2.) My list would be something like this A DM (Soumare, Berge...oh bollocks, Ascacibar joined Hertha Berlin last week) A RB...although this looks most likely to be pre-contract, as Aarons would be buy-and-loan-back and there's no way Leipzig would sell us Mukiele this month A backup striker, which we're going to need for the next couple of months, with Ings being a decent shout (and he could have signed for us years ago, but he went to Saltypool for the money and never played)
Sky reporting we're looking at Brighton CB Ben White, on loan at Leeds. He's played every minute of every game this season and is highly rated - apparently a lot of PL clubs are monitoring his progress. That's the type of signing we used to be so good at - under Poch I'd be delighted to see him join, but does Maureen have the skills to nurture a young player from a lower division into a star?
White will love it here. He could sit alongside Dave on the bench as they laugh at how funny Toby’s defending has become.
To be honest, I think Ben Godfrey of Norwich is the better option considering he's got experience of playing in the Premier League On the other hand, Dayot Upamecano has 18 months left on his contract, and we really need to act soon before Bayern do what Bayern always ****ing do
Poch didn’t turn everyone into a star plus he turned no one into a winner. I’m not too bothered about bringing in kids and watching their careers unfold. I just want quality to turn to. Why are we considering scraping barrels?
I don’t know but surely there’s better options than him He’s a good player in the championship but struggled in the PL. I think his goal return was 1 in 4.
I’d take him all day long for short term. Sort of player that Mourinho would get the best out of and lots of experience.
Haven’t you just listed a championship striker and a has been as two of your preferred targets? . I rate both FWIW but don’t see why White should be regarded as scraping the barrel tbh. Good, young English players have generally been our bread and butter over the years.
He scored 11 in 37 for a really **** Fulham side last season, which is a decent return. My main question about him would be his mentality, as he has a nasty streak. Might suit Mourinho, though.
Mitrovich has done it in the PL...so that fills me with more faith...also a seasoned international now. I don’t mind the ‘past it’ tag on players so long as they offer something...Cavani would and has played at the very top and I can see him being a serious threat to Kane...the new kid will just disappear into oblivion like most of our purchases of a similar ilk do...so I suppose I lack the confidence that we do anything useful with rough diamonds. A part of me also believes that Kane would take it a bit better if usurped by someone of Cavani’s pedigree than some unknown kid. Wonder how he would deal with it now that Poch has gone and Jose doesn’t do favourites. still can’t believe we wasted 10 mill of a limited budget on someone who hasn’t had a sniff.
Done it in the PL is a bit extreme. He's averaged roughly a one in four strike rate in the Prem. Decent but not spectacular. Good enough player but that's it. Cavani wouldn't usurp Kane either, no chance. He'd play in Kane's absence and you'd like to think would get more chances than Parrott has so far but he definitely won't overtake Kane. Not sure how you think we don't do much with rough diamonds though, most of our best players in recent history have started as a rough diamond. As for favourites, you think Jose isn't favouring Toby or Aurier right now when 90% of fans think a better option is being left on the bench/ out of the squad? Toby's played every minute under Jose despite being utter dogshit, even managing to coax the club into giving him a huge new deal. All managers have favourites. What top quality player would you get for £10m though? Think Clarke will prove to be a smart investment and looks a promising player. We were willing to chuck circa £65m on Dybala in the summer too, don't think Clarke's signing impacted anything, we scouted him and clearly liked what we saw so paid what was necessary.
