Perhaps but it's still good news and we could do with some of that at the moment. Keeping key players is essential to us moving forward. As for Jan, time for Poch to put the team before his ego.
DH you don't know whose ego is involved here it might be Poch but equally it might be Jan or it might be neither. He could be putting the team first by not playing him we just don't know.
Signing long-term replacements is even more essential to us moving forward. The current cycle is at an end - Toby, Jan, Rose, Wanyama etc. are not part of that long-term vision. But definitely in light of the fact that said replacements haven't been signed, it makes much more sense to stop the gap with quality, established players. Jan does need to be brought back in from the dark. His performance levels haven't dropped an iota despite the years ticking on.
With our right-back situation, Vertonghen might be recalled without having to drop Sanchez. Sissoko as a wingback and a back three of Alderweireld, Sanchez and Vertonghen wouldn't surprise me.
A long term replacement generally needs time though. We're entering the third year with Dave and he's still another year or two off of being at Jan/ Toby levels. For me it's essential that current key players are kept, otherwise we'll be stuck in a vicious cycle where we're constantly looking for the long term replacement of a long term replacement. We ideally need to manage a way of ensuring Dave gets plenty of game time but also that we're not weakening ourselves by continuously dropping a player like Jan who instantly makes our defence twice as good. It's not necessarily easy but it also shouldn't be too difficult for a manager like Poch.
Good news: Football Insider are reporting that Toby is on the verge of signing a new contract Bad news: Football Insider are the source...
Didn't seem like it. I and many others were downright disgusted by their performance....especially the travelling fans. Mind you, Liverpool weren't much better. We had some incredible luck against Ajax and City.....perhaps making up for some awful performances in the second half of the season and some games where we were out of luck.
Gullible idiots are suggesting Verts got into a training ground punch-up, with their "evidence" being he was sporting a black eye on Sunday Gee,I wonder who the "source" for this story is?
Here's a breakdown of their tweets i.) Nine headlines ii.) Dozens of replies saying variations of "No" to people saying he's talking ****e iii.) A notable gap between the 613 tweets they've supposedly made and the number that actually exist, almost as if they had to go on a deleting spree during the summer...
Haha, it’s a guy taking the piss out of all the ITK accounts that started flooding Twitter over the summer, he ended all of his tweets by saying things like “met Dybala, asked if he’s joining, he gave me a wink”, “Met Tanguy, asked how the medical went, gave me a wink”.
