Not even necessarily ‘good’ backup, he’s just backup - strength in depth an’ all that. Aurier is very much a heart in mouth type of player, especially in the Prem. The main pro of keeping him is that he’s generally done well in Europe, so an argument could be made for KWP/ Foyth in the Prem and Aurier in the CL. Overall I’m still more than happy to give KWP/ Foyth a go in both comps and see how they/ we fair, though can see a reason for keeping Aurier.
Yeah that’s where my head’s at. Aurier’s had two seasons to prove his worth and whilst he’s had a couple injuries, he was unable to oust Trippier in either season. That’s not a great sign. Both KWP and Foyth are very firmly in the “have a load of potential” bracket and so the only way we’ll get to see if they can reach that potential is by playing them.
The issue last season is that we needed a player who could stake a claim to being our rightful first choice RB, and instead what we had was three players stating their case to not be the first choice Aurier has the pace going forward that we need but has lapses in concentration and discipline far too often Trippier had a good World Cup, which is apparently both relevant and important to the league season that followed... KWP was a good shout as a backup...but had two players between him and time on the pitch so had little chance to stake a claim to be backup That's why there was a lot of excitement late in the window about Atal coming in, as the feeling is he could be the first choice-level RB we need (although the ****fit those same fans were throwing about Hysaj was more than a little obnoxious...)
Aurier being kept I would say is dependant on how long we think Foyth is out for - I heard 3 months?. Having said that, we have Dier and Alderweireld that can play right back, so we are not without options.
Exodus Watch While the source is a bit too Turkish to take as gospel, there's reports that Galatasaray officials are in London to discuss a move for Big Vic - although it's not been clarified if it's a loan or full transfer We all know what time it is... please log in to view this image
I saw an article in The Standard today where Tony Khan was moaning about our late move for Ryan Sessegnon. It's your fault for letting his contract run down, boss. Unfortunately, that's the way the cookie crumbles, mate. We don't know if we'll need the money for buying Lo Celso, not loaning him in. Equally, we might have had to fund purchasing Dybala. The market is what it is. If we lose Eriksen, Toby and Rose right at the close of the European market, we may be ****ed, but we've got nothing to moan about. "C'est la guerre, mon ami"
The same Tony Khan who offered to buy Wembley for less than The FA spent building it? Also, considering that we'd been linked with Sessegnon for over two years by the time we bought him, it's not like Fulham were caught with their trousers down by our bid
If we can make some sort of arrangement in January that would be a masterstroke as it would at least give GLC some time to bed in and would guarantee we don't get drawn into a bidding war for Dybala.
And give us an opportunity to replace Eriksen, too. I suspect that they'll probably try to tap him up now though, instead.
Oh well, all those reports of our interest over the last six months were all for nothing ...is a sentence that can be said for each of the past three seasons
Apparently Napoli are considering a move for Fernando Llorente, although their top target is Mauro Icardi
There is talk doing the rounds we've now offered Eriksen £200k a week to stay, it's still not as much as he could get at Madrid but it's an amount that shows how much the club wants to keep him as he'd be more or less on parity with Kane. Pleeeeeease just let me see Tanguy, Gio and Eriksen play in the same team. It really would be some ridiculously sexy football.
Roma in talks to sign Lovren. I guess that ends their interest in Toby. I guess it also ends my interest in their levels of sanity.
If the mousers can get money for Lovren they might as well give up nicking hub caps and selling drugs on Merseyside.
