I think Juve wanted the deal to happen because they want Pogba but need to sell first to buy him.

IIRC it's the game of 4D chess they're playing to basically force Inter to sell them Icardi

Only if it's in January. I'm happy to see Walker-Peters getting regular football, but we need some cover there.

If only there was a way where we could move on Aurier and get a new RB at the same time while PSG avoid losing a player in the last last year of his contract for nothing...

Too late for that, unfortunately. Might be worth keeping an eye on next summer, though.

I'm not totally fussed if I'm honest. It's probably smarter to do what you've said but I think KWP/ Foyth and then players like Dier/ Sissoko can provide us with enough cover.

We'll have games this season where KWP/ Foyth get torn a new one, we have to expect that with young players but whilst Aurier hasn't shown us he's good enough for the role despite being an experienced player, I'd rather persist with the other two in the hope that in x amount of time they'll be performing at a level that makes them a solidified starter in the XI. Worst case we can revisit the RB spot in January should both look very poor between now and then.

Foyth's currently injured, Dier's had lots of problems for the last year or two and Sissoko's needed in the middle.
The pre-season showed how light we were at fullback, often ending with two youth midfielders playing there.
Aurier should be given the rest of this season or at least the first half of it to prove he's worthy of a place in the squad, in my opinion.

To be fair to him he has played well in the Champions League for us, was excellent in the home match v Dortmund, and has never really been given a run in the premier league side, so whilst I have my reservations about him he probably does deserve to be given another chance, though KWP played well yesterday and should keep his place for now.

Yeah as I said, it's smarter to do as you've said, I'm just personally at a stage where I'm not overly fussed if he does go now/ January/ next summer. A guy of his supposed pedigree should've made Walker's loss a lot easier to take, instead he's left us hoping a young, inexperienced RB and a young CB trying to play RB, can solve our RB issues.

If Madrid do try and get Eriksen on the cheap now, should we
sanction some proper Levy mischief involving Bale ?? :)

No...Bale would completely disrupt us as a team imho.

If Bale joined I’d obviously cheer him on but can’t deny a little part of me wants him to rot* on the Madrid bench.

*rotting whilst picking up £600k a week is hardly a hard life though.

Would much rather try again for Dybala in Jan if we’re looking for a marquee signing.

    Think you are right here.

Kwp needs an opportunity. Its the smart way of integrating youth players a couple at a time.

He looked really good yesterday. Pretty poor with his final product but he was solid, had great energy and recovery pace and was always willing to make the run forward to stretch the villa defence

Since the EFL website confronts you with approximately 763 pages of contract law, can anyone confirm or deny if the loan window is still open? Otherwise a few of the U23s are going to have to learn Dutch pretty damn quick...

In other news, it turns out I missed a few when documenting the players we've been linked with since January...

It’s definitely a tough call ‘coz I get PNP’s point in that having the Aurier option is better than no option at all but ultimately if he were any good he’d have played more than he has in the past two seasons and KWP is now at an age where it’s basically play him or sell him, whilst Foyth also deserves a chance when he’s back fit. If Aurier is still here he’ll be wanting game time and so that could halt the progression of one of the other two.

I truly do believe KWP can become a good RB so that’s why I’m happy to persist with him and thus sell Aurier, even though the general rule of averages for a young defender would suggest KWP will cost us at least 2-3 games this season if he plays 25+ matches. It’s just about trusting the process in that the experience will serve him good in the long run and he’ll prove his worth to the club for many years to come.

It’s risky but I’m happy to take the risk of binning Aurier off to ensure KWP (and Foyth when fit) get sufficient game time. Even if it’s not exactly the smartest option.

You say aurier is good backup (maybe keep whilst foyths injured) and that young players might make mistakes that cost you points.

You are assuming auriers mistake free and not causing any loss of points.

    Agree, I’d sell Aurier.

Aurier is the finished article and still isn’t good enough

Foyth and KWP both have lots of potential and need game time to fulfill it.
