He has never ruled out signing a new contract. The fact is that at the moment nobody he’d consider a step up seems to be interested in him. I agree that if he’s presented with a new contract and refuses to sign then we have to sell.

Both Ceballos and Lo Celso can reportedly play anywhere across midfield. They’re both far younger and have bright futures ahead of them. And with Poch as their mentor, who knows how good they can be?

if Eriksen wants to dick around, I for one won’t shed too many tears if he goes.

I think that’s mainly the issue. Eriksen isn’t a big personality. No Spurs players really are. Modric wasn’t one either although Bale did begin to trademark his GB11 logo which put him on that path. Eriksen just seems like a quiet individual who goes about his job with no fuss. Pogba makes Madrid more money in the long term than what Eriksen would and I think that’s why they’ll prefer him to Eriksen.

Pogba is certainly the Galactico signing and out of the two would probably thrive more at a club like Real. Plus he’s different from what they have as he’s physically just more of a presence that Eriksen or any of Real’s midfielders.

It goes back to what Rafa VDV said a few months ago, to succeed at Los Ladrones you need to be a narcissistic prick (that's only a slight embellishment on what he said) yet Eriksen simply isn't, he's far more pragmatic

Add to that, if he were to sign, his unveiling would be a ****show as he'd get thousands chanting "You're not Shiny Toy 536" because he's not a Big Name and, therefore, deserving of scorn and ridicule before he even touches the ball

    Exactly.

Pogba can ( when he’s in the mood) dominate and control a game in a way that Eriksen never could.

They’re completely different players. Chalk and cheese.

No I agree he hasn’t, he’s been nothing but respectful to Spurs though by saying he won’t rule out a new deal, he’s not dicking around as you suggested, that was what Bale and Modric done by refusing to play or train for us. Ultimately though he has one year left on his contract and it’s pretty obvious his preferred choice would be to join Madrid (can’t really blame him) so if we don’t sell this window we run the risk of losing him for free. Personally I hope Madrid go for Pogba because that could persuade Eriksen to sign a new deal and that’s the best outcome for Spurs. As I just said to Hudd, Pogba is the more lucrative option for Madrid, he’ll cost more in the short term but long term he’ll make them far more than Eriksen could and I think that’ll be the deciding factor in their decision making.

Eriksen can also play anywhere across the midfield, we just play him in his best position. Ceballos and Lo Celso may or may not become as good or better than Eriksen in time but ultimately we know right now in the present that Eriksen is better.

Yeah for sure, he fits Madrid to a tee but then Modric has also shown you don’t have to be a loud mouth egotistical dickhead to succeed there. I find Eriksen very similar to Modric in terms of their mannerisms, minus the ****ing around Modric done to get his move, he was generally a quiet guy who just got on with his job, which is pretty much what Eriksen does.

I actually think Eriksen in Spain would be deadly. His vision and creativity would probably be well on show out there as the pace is a little slower but more technical, he’s shown he’s one of the best in the fastest league in world football, imagine if he has an extra second or two to think in Spain? Scary.

Ultimately I hope Madrid do go for Pogba. If it means we get to keep Eriksen, even if that’s at the expense of not signing Lo Celso, I’d take that every single day of the week.

Yeah Spain would suit him to a tee. I hope we get a fat fee and invest in the squad balance tbh, that’s the most pressing issue. Especially RB

Not sure why people think because there isnt a queue of clubs lining up for eriksen hes not in demand.

Eriksens going to cost probs around 80m. The list of clubs who can afford that and is willing to pay that as well as being a place eriksen wants to go isnt high.

Considering they can get him for free in a years year or at a substantially reduced rate in jan then it makes it even less likely that theres going to be a massive queue

I hope he signs a new deal and we keep him. There’s still money to spend on a RB regardless.

He’s got his sights set on Real. However, they’re not showing much interest atm.

However, I stick by my view that if he was that good there’d be a far longer list of suitors. There are many clubs out there to whom £80 is very affordable, so it’s more down to interest than affordability.

There wouldn’t, because when you’re a top player there’s only a select amount of teams that can afford and attract them.

Just look at Griezmann, world class player and yet only Barca have so far activated his release clause.

Having the money is also the easy part in this day and age, having the stature and allure is another. For instance a team like Everton could probably afford Eriksen, yet he’d never join them.

Apparently Spurs are going to bid £30million for Kalvin Phillips from Leeds <laugh>

It really is silly season isn’t it

No, it doesn't. Spurlock OTOH has.

Nobody appears to be coming in for Eriksen this summer.
Nobody at Spurs really wants him gone.

So what does HE want ??

    1. A new contract with higher wages (how much higher) ??
    2. Try and run the contract down so he can go on a free next summer ??

    #1 is fair game.

#2, well if the CMs for the future are incoming, he may find himself
on ever decreasing starting XI duty this season.

He might also be waiting to see who Spurs sign, he may not relish competition for his place in the starting 11. Personally, I think competition is really what he needs to make him world class.

Well, if "competition" is going to be a new euphemism to be added to the list
of reasons one seeks a "new challenge" , he may find this summer that Spurs
are going have a tick against that one. :)

Nobody’s yet gone in for Pogba or Neymar but it’s pretty clear they’re wanted. Madrid are weighing up whether to move for Pogba or Eriksen. Pogba is more Madrid’s type but Eriksen is the cheaper option.

It’s pretty clear what Eriksen himself wants - to join Madrid but if that doesn’t materialise there’s a possibility he’ll sign a new contract. Hopefully for us it’s the latter.

There also definitely Spurs fans who are happy with the idea of selling Eriksen to bring in Lo Celso. Most of them have probably only seen Lo Celso from YouTube too. I’m happy to bring Lo Celso in should Eriksen go but my number one choice is keeping the Dane.

Then again he might like the idea of more players who can offer competition coming in as he might not then be run into the ground by being needed for almost every match.
I hope he stays, he is clearly one of our.most consistent and influential players and is a player whose skills we should be looking to compliment with our new signings, not replace.
