I agree as far as the opposite flank is in much more urgent need of improvement, but...The thinking here is probably as much down to Rose's age and injury record as anything else. While we did start to see him back at his best toward the end of last season, one more serious injury and he is effectively worthless in terms of sell-on value. I also think that Pool's FBs have taken the position to another level, way beyond even what we were seeing from Walker and Rose at the height of their powers. It seems that Poch sees Sessegnon as the answer to that problem and trusts that he will bring a dimension to our play that Rose cannot. His experiment with Foyth at RB clearly indicated that he is attempting to emulate the Pool model of using technically brilliant, confident on the ball players at FB. Foyth isn't as strong as Aurier, isn't as quick as KWP and hasn't got Trippier's crossing ability. But in terms of technique he is already clearly on the path to being superior to all of them. Rose's main strengths are his tenacity and bravery. He is not the most technically gifted player out there. His crossing and final pass are often abysmal. Davies is technically the superior player in that respect and now that he is free of his groin troubles may be seen by Poch as already ahead of Rose in the pecking order. We forget how good the Welshman was 2 years ago. I doubt Poch has. Him as first choice and Sess as one for the future is fine by me, my only concern is if we invest in the left flank at the expense of the right flank.
Hmm, I get what you’re saying but it doesn’t fill me with confidence. Granted, we’ve gotta plan very carefully with Rose for the reasons you mention, but I don’t think Sessegnon is anywhere near the standard of Robertson or TAA. Certainly not yet, anyway. Davies is a reliable steady Eddie, but again, I don’t think he’s particularly threatening going forward. I think a combo of Sess and Davies (with Rose being shown the door) would leave us in a similar position that we’ve faced down the right since selling Walker.
That new level they took it to was quite simply efficency of executing a good cross. Rose can be great up to that point then hes hit and miss...more miss though. We need to refine the finer margins...thats down to Poch. As for the Right side....theres a bloke whos won 40 trophies in his career, available. That would be invaluable for us
Liverpool have two fullbacks that deliver superb crosses, Robertson is the better of the two and the better defender but Arnold has time to develop.
With regards to FB, anyone think that if we go 433 (post-Eriksen) and sign both GLC and Ceballos to add to Ndombele that we might actually need our FBs to be more defensively minded? There has been recent media speculation that Davies may become first choice this season (who's the better defender) whilst you have to wonder just why Foyth was used at RB towards the end of the season instead of KWP. Dier can also play a defensive RB role superbly. It's interesting not knowing how we'll line up though, it's probably the first time in Poch's time in charge where it's gonna be hard to predict the general starting XI. Over probably 3, maybe even 4 of his 5 years in charge, most of us would more or less agree with roughly 9 of the 11 spots. This time around, our FBs (attack or defensive?), CM (Ndombele, Sissoko and...? Or maybe - albeit it unlikely - three newbies in Ndombele, GLC and Ceballos) and even our front three is open for debate (Alli or Lucas to join Kane and Son?).
I agree with that but also think it puts you in the same situation as us and Chelsea. Chelsea had Sariball and did quite well with it under the circumstances, we had **** knows You had a system that served you very well, will you be as successful if you change it? (same question for us and Chelsea).
Ben Davies and Harry Winks have both signed new five-year contracts with Premier League club Tottenham. Wales defender Davies, 26, joined from Swansea in July 2014 and has made 168 appearances for Spurs. Academy product Winks, 23, has played 104 times for Spurs having made his first-team debut in November 2014. "I have been at the club since I was five so when I got the opportunity to sign a new contract it was a no-brainer," said the England midfielder. Winks made 41 appearances in all competitions in 2018-19, helping Spurs finish fourth in the Premier League and reach their first ever Champions League final. Davies, who played in 40 games last term, added: "I have worked really hard to put myself in the position to stay at this club for the next few years and I am delighted to be here." How do you manage to be at the club since 5? wtf my young un is 4....hes sound asleep with his fave teddy...i must be doing something wrong
Problem is we're probably going to have to change our system because Eriksen's likely to leave and he's been our best and most key player to how we play over the last 4-5 years. We won't be able to sign anyone as good as him to play his role, so to me it'd be silly if we just signed another player to replace him in this system as chances are they'd be inferior and therefore we'd be weaker. We've been strongly linked with two more CMs in Lo Celso and Ceballos despite just signing Ndombele, so I think the signs are that we are gonna move to 433 instead of 4231 that we've predominantly played under Poch.
