Anyone got a picture of Kyle Walker's face from the moment he learned Cancelo would be expecting significant minutes at right back?
The fact that a large number of the City fan base on social media have deemed him their worst player this season, it doesn't bode well. I really, really feel for sorry him. please log in to view this image
No doubt the domestic silverware he has obtained + the high(er) wages he gets, will ease any pain of foreboding.
He didn't have a great season by any stretch of the imagination but what City are doing just shows what a bottomless pot of gold can do for you. Loads of outlets reporting that at the same time as negotiating with Cancelo, they've tied Walker down to a new contract which runs until 2024 and is worth well over £160k a week. I'm sure he'll be more than happy warming the bench for that money. At the same time, he'll be the wrong side of 30 sooner rather than later. Once he loses a yard of pace his game is more or less busted, so they've lined up a long-term successor who will take a year or two to adjust to the pace of the PL and will slowly phase Walker out in the medium-term.
Ndombele Watch ...in other words, fingers crossed for L'Equipe to report that Lyon are interested in taking Seri back to Ligue 1
Lots of rumours that it is a done deal.......this is Spurs, no such thing! Good young home grown talent mind. Pacy, direct and good crosser. Fingers crossed
I saw that too (assuming you mean Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos), again not sure on how good the sources are. If we’re going to lose Eriksen then this isn’t a bad deal, Ceballos seems to tick a lot of boxes and getting the potential solution to our midfield issues plus £45m to invest elsewhere in return for Eriksen would have to be viewed as good business given we’re almost certainly going to lose the Dane.
Not sure if Ceballos could cut in the Prem. Maybe as part of a three man midfield but if we kept with 4231 I don’t think he has the physicality for the role in the Prem.
I think in a 433 he works, in a 4231 he’d probably have to play as a 10 rather than in the pivot, though he does seem to put a shift in and get about the pitch. Adjusting to having less time on the ball is going to be an issue for any non-PL signing but he’s tenacious, technically strong and has good feet so I’d be cautiously optimistic he’d adapt.
You may be right and if that sort of deal did happen then I’d pray you were. It’s probably the best type of deal to get too if losing Eriksen is a dead cert. Ceballos would probably cost between £30m-£40m in this market so in total it’d add up to around £75m-£85m overall which is pretty decent considering Eriksen’s contract situation.
I hope I’m right too! I’ve watched him play a few times, watched/listened to a few Spanish football journos speak about him, and done the obligatory YouTube highlight reel. Can’t claim to be an expert of course but who is. Ultimately there are so many factors that affect how a player adapts to a new team and league that the on-pitch matters are just one cog in the wheel. You’re right on the valuation stakes. With NDombele looking competitive and expensive, and Lo Celso seeming to get more expensive every day, wrapping up a potentially important player in swap + cash is sensible.
Quite funny watching Utd struggling to sign players. They could have anyone in Fergie’s era. So far Griezmann and Eriksen have both rejected their advances (think Godin did in January too), de Ligt looks like he favours either Barca or PSG while they’re struggling to agree a deal for a Crystal Palace RB.
