"Tottenham showed no character. There were players like Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli who did not want the ball" Andrea Pirlo On The Champions League Final
He lacks the presence we should be expecting from our main playmaker. When we lose finals and semi finals they are to big teams not Brighton n Burnley. If it wasn't for VAR Eriksen and his big game temprement would have cost us the game against City. Nothing to do with him leaving but his set piece conversion rate is piss poor for a top player and for one of Spurs's best. It's about presence when it counts
This is the reason I'd be happy to let Eriksen and Dele Alli leave this summer if decent offers come our way because one more season like the last one and they'll be almost worthless (even if Eriksen signs an extension). And before the cavalry come to the rescue citing how players played deep into the World Cup, I don't see the French, Croatian and Belgian contingents playing like complete cack nor Raheem Sterling, Kyle Walker or Harry McGuire, to name but a few.
He’s bagged assists in each of the two FA Cup semis we’ve been in. He’s gotten assists in both games in the CL quarter finals this season. Scored against Madrid and Juve last season. Just because he didn’t perform in the CL final - which applies to all of our players - it doesn’t mean he goes missing in big games. Set pieces I agree have been poor but I disagree with the notion that he goes missing in big games. He’s probably our best big game player all things considered, it’s just unfortunately the CL final he along with the rest of the team never delivered.
We're all entitled to our opinions and mine is one that I wouldn't have given in previous seasons but the 2 players in question have been a massive let-downs this season. Our points total doesn't lie.
Well unless we had de Bruyne or Hazard, there's not another number ten playmaker in Europe who's better right now.
We don't need to be playing exactly the same system. Liverpool lost Coutinho and adapted to a new system. In fact selling him brought in the funds to get the players they needed
Pool had their insurance at the club in Salah, who immediately became their key player in the summer, meaning the loss of Coutinho in January wasn't as pivotal as it would've been in the summer. Pool were also built for the formation they now play, Robertson and Trent are key to their system, it's eliminated the need for an outright playmaker as they provide a good number of assists while their front three all work as a great unit grabbing loads of goals. We don't have that insurance at Spurs, nor do we have FBs who can grab 10+ assists and so we rely on a playmaker to make it tick.
I would love for us to fork out for the FBs we need and a replacement for Dembele plus more depth but we all know that Levy won't go mad unless we raise funds. Therefore, we need to sell and the most bankable assets are Kane, Son, Moura, Dele and Erksen. It would be very silly to sell the first 3 as they always give their all and everyone can see that but the last 2 are a completely different matter.
It wasn’t VAR that disallowed Sterling’s goal. It was Aguero being offside, but that is easy to overlook if people are looking for scapegoats
In Son's best season to date he's managed to contribute towards just three more goals combined than Eriksen who's supposedly been poor and "doesn't give his all". And for as good as Lucas was in the semi final, his inconsistency levels are far, far worse than Eriksen. Eriksen is a superior player to Son, Lucas and Dele, arguably Kane too. The notion of happily/ willingly selling him is something I find very strange. I think you're too obsessed with trying to be exactly like Liverpool to realise that not all clubs and players are or can be the same.
Really? He didn't bother to turn up in the World Cup and brought a note from his mum in the Nations League games against Holland and Switzerland just a week ago.
I'm not obsessed with anything but i will happily cite good examples to follow. Eriksen's heart isn't really in it anymore, by his own admission. If he signs a new long-term contract and starts looking like he cares, i'll happily eat my words. However, if he intends to run down the final year of his contract I think we'll all be entitled to ask why he wasn't sold to help fund our next phase.
He still played at the world cup though, as did the rest of the team. He still ran around. As for the Nations League last week, that was after the 18-19 season was already over so was never going to impact anyone's league form last season, unless the England team have a Tardis.
I just don’t get this notion that he doesn’t care. Just because his form dipped it doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. Player suffer dips in form unless their name is Ronaldo or Messi. Even at a season where he’s been below par by usual standards, he still pisses over 95% of players in his position. He’s a top class player and should be one of the very last people we ever contemplate willingly selling. There are far, far bigger problems than trying to improve on/ get rid of our best players.
