Centre Back Watch Well that's one we can cross off the list... Pretty smart pickup by Schalke: with Goretzka headed to Bayern (of course...) and it looks like Meyer is flouncing out the door after him they need to get their transfers sorted PDQ especially as they're currently on course for CL qualification, and so far they've picked up Sane for €8m and agreed a free transfer for Hoffenheim's Mark Uth No, can't think what I'm implying...
Malcom Watch In an interview he said "PSG is my dream" - sort of like how, a month ago, he said in an interview how his dream was to play for Bayern...and a month before that he had his laundry list of Spurs, Man Utd and Bayern. Sort of like Aubameyang spent all last summer saying he wanted a Big Move, then a move to China, then he was happy to stay at Dortmund, and promptly wound up at Arsenal. Seri Watch The Chavs are reportedly set to meet his release clause, which I'm sure is the news that Bakayoko, Barkley and Drinkwater wanted to hear...
please log in to view this image How about we start Toby up front against Brighton and tell him that, if he scores a hat trick, he'll get the five-year, £180k a week contract he's asking for?
We will be outbid for his signature, we blew it I think. Only hope is our way of playing the game could look attractive to the kid aswell as wanting to improve under Poch
From Sky Sports... Manager Jose Mourinho says Manchester United will not "do anything crazy" during the summer transfer market. We really are stuck with Danny Rose, aren't we?
Today's dismantlement story suggests Dembele is off to Juventus...or China, which means only one thing Uncle Dan is going to have to cough up Seri's release clause, and he needs to cough it up quick
After recent matches i'd be inclined to hold on to Toby and if we have to let him go for £25 million in a year or so then so be it. Much rather have him with us for an extra season than not.
IIRC the problem is if we trigger the option to extend his contract by a year, that in turn triggers a release clause of £25m which i believe is effective immediately. So in other words, if we want to keep him for another season without losing him for £25m this summer or £0 next summer, we'd need to wait until after the window closes, trigger the extension, and pray that no-one knocks on the door in January with £25m in their back pocket. For the sake of potentially as little as 3 months of football at the non-business end of the season and halving his true value I'd rather he has an impressive World Cup and we fleece whoever comes in for him this summer.
If we were to offload Toby this summer, I'm thinking we should consider signing two centre backs: some combination of Tah/Pavard/Diop/De Ligt for the non-HG and one of Lascelles/Mawson/Maguire/Evans for the HG option, which would allow us to play three at the back next season while having enough in reserve should a player be injured/suspended/knackered after playing 50+ games this season while also allowing us to drip feed Foyth/CCV/Tanganga into the team Of course the obvious thing that stands out is how much cheaper Maguire would have been last summer compared to this summer...
I think this summer's transfer window will be a serious test for most if not all clubs. It closes 2 days before the premier league season starts so no club can try to panic buy their way out of trouble or unsettle players into going on strike at the beginning of the season. getting transfers done early will be essential in my opinion as every one else will be doing the same.
Best thing to have happened for years, shame they brought it in for a WC year. Very little time to do anything if deals aren't already in place.
