Welp, looks like we have our first insider fight of the summer Plettenberk claims that we're very happy with Mathys Tel, though we are hoping to negotiate down the cost of making his loan permanent
First he posted the obvious on Friday and then he’s reposting it for more engagement. Matt Law is no better than the twitter accounts some ridicule imo
TeamTalk are alleging Kule is seeking clarification on two points before agreeing a new contract: 1) plans of transfers 2) plans for Postecoglou. Obviously he’s seeking some hope that spurs are planning to improve the squad but I wonder what he’s hoping for Ange’s future. PS - don’t care about the validity of the source!
Now that Burnley have secured promotion, it (apparently) means they’ve triggered the buy clause for Edwards so we’ll pocket a few £m from the deal due to our sell on clause with Sporting.
Leeds coming up probably means we're going to flip Solomon too Unfortunately means we'd also have to hear Leeds fans' chant about him...
Gotta be at least £15m too I’d say, if not more. He tore the league to shreds in stages for them and I thought he looked handy in the few games he played for us. Bonkers we loaned him out and loaned in Werner.
Everton were reportedly interested a couple of weeks ago, too Made sense to loan him given he missed the best part of a year, and TBH it does have to be said he's only managed to play 90 minutes for Leeds two or three times all season
Still played a lot of mins though and gotten 20 goal contributions. Werner probably gets 7 at best before being dropped for one of their academy stars… or attacked by one of their lovely fans.
The telling thing is that Bryan Gil was the equivalent of 5-6 games of football ahead of him until the last couple of weeks, and Gil's been out injured since March Not that Gil would have had a starting place in our squad, as he'd likely be literally bouncing off packed middles this season, but that does put into context that Gil was probably the bigger misfit for us yet he was regularly completing games in La Liga and the Champions League before his leg exploded
I'd struggle to pay more than £30m for him. There's a player in there but he's nowhere close to the £60m fee being touted when we signed him. If we don't win the EL, lack of CL money plus being down circa £36m in prize money for finishing 12 positions lower than last season will really hit our summer business.
I'll be disappointed if we signed Tel. The very fact that he didn't want to come to us should have meant we ended our interest in him (Ange has constantly said he only wants to sign players who want to play for spurs rather than because they want to play in the Premier league or in Europe). Now Bayern seemingly want rid of him ... surely that's pretty telling.
That one deserves a piss-sock! I think Tel's a talented player and could be a big prospect, but I'm not sure what role suits him. We should try to negotiate Bayern down to a reasonable fee and go from there. If whoever takes over from Postecoglou wants him, then great. If not, then pass. I think he could turn into a good inside forward, second striker or Dele-style attacking midfielder. None of those are roles in our current system, which I hope we move on from.
I'd imagine Bayern are keen to be flexible as Levy still has a big IOU from them for the Kane fee, which Tel's signing would presumably disappear. I like him as a lad, he's hard working and seems to have the sort of mentality we've sorely lacked in recent years. Going over to talk to the away fans after our loss at Fulham as a 19 year old kid not even a player at the club shows a lot about him imo. Like PNP said, under the current manager and his Noel's House Party system, it's almost impossible to know for sure how good any player actually is or what position would suit them best.
I'm in the 'lets see' group: Certainly there is a player in there and his performance the other night was a real step up - great attitude and positivity. He shows a maturity beyond his 19 years - and I think we forget just how young he is. But conversely, unless we do manage to somehow win the EL, spending £60m on a 'prospect' will be way beyond our practical budget for next season. Having said that, negotiate down to £30m and I'd be happy to get him on board.
