He did but if we bring in Kolo Muani, I can't see any logic in keeping Werner. In fact we could sell Son, Odobert and Moore and there is still no logic in keeping Werner, but we need to do things properly and above board etc.
Giuseppe Di Marzio says that Napoli are looking at Timo Werner as a Kvicha replacement Kolo Muani Watch Di Marzio says that Juventus are in pole position to sign Randall Kolo Muani this month ...though L'Equipe say that Juve can't actually afford him
I’m hoping that’s just typical managerial waffle. If Sunday wasn’t the final nail and Ange is still of the opinion Werner is a useful squad option then he needs to be sectioned at Broadmoor.
By all accounts, we can't afford him either and that's what's holding up the deal. Concerning if true albeit entirely unsurprising. We don't have nearly as much money as us fans thought we did.
Yeah I don’t think it does, Leipzig’s also said they don’t want him back this month too so they’re unwilling to break it their end. The only hope is that we can find another club to take the loan over, I presume similar to what happened with Gedson Fernandes a couple years back. Need Napoli or Frankfurt to do us the biggest of favours imaginable. Who’d have thought taking both Chelsea and Leipzig’s trash would end this way…?
Werner reportedly picked up a hamstring injury against Tamworth, according to Alasdair Gold That might have something to say about whether he stays or goes this month
Sounds like Kolo Muani is close to joining/ leaning towards Juventus according to a couple different journos. Can’t say I’m a big fan of his as it is but he was seemingly our top target. So not sure what happens now.
I hate to say it, but the whole deal smacked of one we've seen dozens of times over the years. Relying on a player who is mildly of interest to us falling out of favour at a bigger or wealthier club, so that we can take advantage for a cut-price deal. We've been here so many times before. We're the sporting equivalent of Boxing Day shoppers.
Kolo Muani to Juve here we go. Lol, two weeks chasing him as our primary attacking target and now he goes elsewhere. That went well.
apparently Juve are covering all of his wages. Knowing our track record, I suspect our offer was only a % . Half the window wasted on trying to bring him in, only to fail. As Citizen Kane says, we’ve seen this so many times before. - however, at least we’ve got 2 weeks left and it’s not happened on deadline day. I revert back to my previous comments… why are we not identifying players between Sept and Christmas, ready for deals to be made by 1st Jan? Bearing in mind we’re in a “project”, you’d think the project would have some plans in place… anyhoo, it is what it is. Don’t forget, the new stadium will be a game changer.
Romano said that Muani chose Juve because they offer champions league football. We move on. Let’s hope we have someone lined up and a defender too
Agreed. Not too bothered by the Muani thing. Defence is much more important at this stage. Not sure why we were looking to add a seventh wide attacker to the squad in the first place. Bit concerning that we don't appear to be bothered at all by the mess in defence. Looks like the club is just going to twiddle its thumbs until various defenders are back from injury, and hope that they don't get injured again.
I think it’s because all of our defenders are actually decent/ good players and I include Reguilon in that (though we’ll need a LB sooner or later). We’re just suffering due to injuries and poor management from Ange. The latter will also put off players as they’ll have seen how little Spence, Dragusin, Davies and Reguilon play when the main four are fit and this club won’t be ambitious enough to sign a player who’d oust one of those from the side, only to back them up. But then in terms of attackers, not many of them are any good. Werner is horrific and should’ve been left in Tamworth, in fact he should’ve been left in Leipzig in Jan 2024. Richarlison should **** off to Saudi. Johnson offers nothing but tap-ins, which wouldn’t be terrible if he was a striker getting on the end of 25+ a season but he’s not. Moore, Odobert and Yang are nowhere near finished products and as with any young player you’ll never know if they’ll become one, especially here with our track record of late. The system kills 75% of Son’s game seeing as he not a touchline winger. So it pretty much leaves Solanke as the only forward whom this system actually fits and who isn’t ****.
I agree on the attackers. Especially when Son is overplayed he just doesn’t seem to take people on as much which causes us problems. When he gets a rest and you see him a bit fresher he looks much more dynamic and while not a perfect fit, a better one. Johnson would be a great player to have in this squad if we had a proper alternative who offered what he doesn’t - a consistent threat beating his man. Johnson is more of a goalscoring winger - almost a Son lite if you will - and that’s a fine threat to have because he’s pretty good at it, but it’s something Ange probably wants as an option rather than consistent first choice. He’s got time to develop that side of his game but it’s not ideal at the moment. Werner has truly fallen off a cliff. I watched a video the other day of all the goals we scored in 2024 and his contribution at the end of last season was fine. Not spectacular but fine as a loan player who plugged an injury gap for half a season. He’s gone to bits this season though, even the basics like first touch are horribly inconsistent. It’s hard to talk about recruitment on the wings because clearly we hoped Odobert would have more of an impact this season but it hasn’t happened through no fault of the player. We haven’t seen as much of Moore as we’d have liked to either. I suspect the impact of Moore and Yang (and Odobert if he gets back) through the rest of this season will determine what we do in the summer. But the profiles aren’t quite right at the minute.
