The Mail sees high potential in Sean Longstaff and ‘Sources' have previously told those close to Longstaff he could sort a move to Tottenham, and it is thought a fresh attempt will be made to arrange a transfer if no new deal is forthcoming at St James’ Park.’

Apparently you're battling it out with Everton and Leeds for his signature

We're being linked with a move for Sam Johnstone.

No idea if that's a loan or permanent. He only just signed for Wolves so if the latter I imagine they'll be looking to recoup as much of that £11m outlay as possible.

    Club wanted Johnstone in 2022.
    Signed Forster instead.
Now wants Johnstone to replace/ displace Forster in 2025.

Yeah that sounds like the sort of thing we'd do.

I'll treat this as a serious rumour from here.

As a back up, it’s not a bad move. Personally I’d prefer the club to go for someone to compete with Vicario though.

It’s a bit of an odd one to me. I’m not sure he’s a clear upgrade on Forster, who is out of contract in the summer. Austin is under contract until 2029, bizarrely, despite seeming to have no real future at the club. Who knows what’s going on with Whiteman. Unless Johnstone is coming in as a loan for the second half of the season - so a bit of a stopgap - it just feels like a weird use of time and resources. Wolves only bought him last summer.

Maybe the plan is something like: recruit Johnstone as a long term 3rd choice -> Forster leaves in the summer -> we either recruit competition for Vic in the summer or promote Keeley to compete for the spot.

Otherwise it just feels like a strange move to be making. Perhaps we’re all just starved of news regarding the more significant moves we need to make in defence and elsewhere.

He’s homegrown, used to the league and happy to be back up. It would be underwhelming but realistically a top keeper wouldn’t want to sign to be back up and SJ probably happy to take that role

There's suggestions that Forster picked up a knock against Wolves, hence his inability to get down for their equaliser

On the one hand, it makes sense for us to go for Johnstone as we've frankly been muddling along with two GKs for too long when most squads have a third precisely for that reason, and with Wolves dangling over the PSR precipice taking advantage is a smart move

On the other hand, there are a lot of reports from Johnstone's time at West Brom and Palace of him being an absolute bell end in the dressing room, which considering how well we vet potential signings does stand out - and that makes it look like a move driven by desperation rather than design

We sure the reason he couldn’t get down was injury? <laugh>

He usually has no issue getting down

Unless it's a penalty shootout, then he looks like a sequoia slowly tumbling due to dry rot

The equaliser went over his right shoulder when he was in a standing position. It was a tidy and powerful finish but at first glance it looked like Forster actually moved out of the way.

Fortunately we're so used to seeing keepers beaten at their near post it hardly registers anymore.

See this is what I love about Spurs.

We extend pantomime season well into February and then give it another run through the summer.

It seems a rule of thumb that if Paul O'Queef says the deal is going to happen, it inevitably doesn't

And yet people still listen to the fraud

He didn’t say it was gonna happen, just the same as everyone else that Johnstone had emerged as a top target. Gold initially said that too before his later update.
