Obviously gutted we didn’t sign a LB to cover Udogie and a GK to cover Vicario but it is what it is. We always finish a transfer window slightly short . Gray, Bergvahl two outstanding signings for the now and the future . Odebert looks a talent and we welcome Yang min Hyuk in Jan. Solanke is a very solid signing and our wide forward positions are strengthened immeasurably with Son playing in his favoured LW position and then we have Odebert, Moore and Hyuk. 7 options in midfield - Biss, Kulu, Maddison, Gray, Sarr, Bergvahl and Bentancur is strong. We also have Donely, Devine and Hall coming through. Aside from Reguilon who will still probably get a move I can’t think of any players that I’m desperate for us to offload. Future signings needed at LB and GK and we can still upgrade Richy , Johnson and Werner upfront ( Hopefully Lankshear, Moore and Hyuk can help solve this ). let’s just hope Vicario and Udogie keep fit…..
Doubtful to be honest. Maddison, Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr, Bergvall, Gray plus Kulu are likely to get game time there before Devine does. Apparently had a load of interest too so not sure why we couldn’t find a decent loan for him.
I think we have the highest net spend of any club but Chelsea since Ange was appointed. Why would Ange or anyone else complain about that?
Remember the wage bill has significantly come down if you’re gonna go that route and pretend Spurs have splashed the cash.
Our business this window strengthens my belief that we're building a team for 2 seasons' time. As I've said before, I'm all for this but we've got to fully commit to it and be ruthless in pursuing it. The players that we are buying and bringing through need to be given game time. That needs to be in line ups that will support them. I see little point in picking all of them together and watching them struggle to losses. Constantly bringing them on for 5 minutes is also no good. Commit to including them for meaningful game time in domestic cup games and EL...and back the coach when we lose. If we're going this route and committing to a long term project, sacking Ange when we don't qualify for the CL (we won't) would be madness. You can't plan long term and act short term, like we have been doing since Poch left. If we're in for this, it's got to be all in
Ange was asked about GLC and Regulilon, whether or not they would be reintegrated into the squad if they failed to find moves, he said there would be no need to do that, so we won`t see Reguilon in a Spurs shirt again.
I don't think the net wage bill has come down very much at all. What do you deem as significant and what is your source for the claim?
I think it has with the amount of exits over the last year, a lot of big earners now gone (Kane, Perisic, Ndombele) I can’t remember where I saw a table but even with Solanke, the wage bill was a lot less than before
The Saudis are proof of that , but how many of those players went there to improve their game and how many went to boost the bank balance playing in front of 10'000 per game ,no thanks , I want players to play for my team and succeed not to coast into a very nice retirement
We've got something like £780k off the wage bill compared to this time last year after moving on Ndombele, Dier, Perisic, Lo Celso, Emerson, Skipp, Rodon, Tangana, Sessegnon and Parrott (and an extra £100k will come off at the end of the season when Marseille's obligation to sign Hojbjerg triggers), and only Solanke significantly eats into that
It’s come down immensely since January. Lloris, Perisic and Dier were all top earners, Hojbjerg had a good wage too as did Lo Celso and we’ve shifted a bunch of other squad players that racked up the bill. I think we’re stupidly paying Werner’s full wage and Solanke will presumably be on or close to £100k I’d imagine but beyond that the likes of Dragusin, Bergvall, Gray and Odobert would be on relative peanuts I’d imagine.
I’ve got a nasty feeling Werner is top earner now? Tbf I wouldn’t mind seeing the club go all out and Romero a 200k a week player with a new deal, that would be a significant statement if they could keep him beyond his current deal.
I think Son still is and then probably him. Just utterly ridiculous we committed to that second loan, more so as we signed Odobert, Werner serves no purpose other than blocking minutes for Moore. I think we should renew Son, Romero and van de Ven all to higher wages. Apparently van de Ven is only on about £50k too. I do think Romero may leave next summer though but hopefully a bit of cash can change his mind.
Yeah I kinda see this season as the last one for Romero, being Argentinian I see him wanting to play in Spain for one of the big clubs there. Get the big fee and his replacement is already there (Dragusin) but I’d like to see Spurs keep this current squad together and add to it and only lose the players that aren’t good enough rather than key players.
There's still a number of European transfer windows that are open for those we haven't shifted or loaned out yet. The Netherlands, Portugal and Turkey are probably the most relevant.
Not true. If that were true, Kane would have stayed. You think he left for more money? If we matched Real Madrid's offer for Mbappe, do you think he'd choose Spurs? We'd have to pay over the odds to have even a whiff of a chance. The equivalent of begging a player to come, as if money is all we have to offer. I still don't think he'd come. He believes in Madrid. You're missing Ange's point. He's not after billy big balls players that are only seeking the money, or who are simply gonna go to the highest bidder. There are many teams that can offer similar money, and we are slowly becoming a team that can match wages with the biggest clubs in the league. He's after players that actually want to be a part of what is being built. Who actually see the club as an attractive proposition before money becomes a point of discussion. I'm not mad at that. That's how we signed the likes of Lennon, Bale, Modric and both VDVs to name a few. Hopefully we will have the muscle and conviction to follow through for a couple of seasons and not start looking for bargains like we have in the past, or make costly mistakes that don't suit the manager or the philosophy as we have more recently. Also hopefully, with the best football stadium too, we are finally becoming a more alluring proposition.
