Yeah if he’s injured then Micky has to cover him and then you either have to play Ben Davies or Dragusin at CB. 1 injury and 2 positions weakened
It's amazing how just about every player suggested by WeAreTottenhamTV - Ito, Calafiori, Todibo, Buongiorno - have moved this summer, and not to us
Nabil Fekir is reportedly leaving Betis, which would free up funds (and a spot in the team) for Lo Celso
In terms of Europa I think we only have space for two potential returning CG players unless we drop a player from the squad for a HG or non-HG player. The latter seems the most likely option I reckon, be interesting to see who would potentially get the chop though should we make a late signing.
Chiesa to Liverpool for £10m. Well worth a gamble at that price, they'll recoup a chunk of it just from shirt sales.
Do they need him? Or have they signed him because they’ve been so quiet. For that fee it’s not much of a risk I guess.
I don't think Salah will stay beyond this season. His is Chiesa's preferred position although the latter did start playing in a more central role in recent years. If (and it's a BIG if) he can put his injuries behind him and work his way back to the levels he showed in his early 20's, they have a world class ready made replacement for their most important player. And if he doesn't, they've lost the equivalent of some loose change down the back of the sofa. It's a very sensible gamble. The only potential obstacle will be if he expects regular game time and they don't oblige.
It’s the Spurs way to always be short in at least one position. Then to rub salt into the wound disaster strikes in the first league game after the window closes - Micky VdV suffers a season ending injury and Spurs are suddenly completely stuffed.
Still short of a left sided defender, the drop off when Davies comes in for either Udogie or VDV will be all too clear. We could also do with upgrading Forster and another midfielder wouldn`t go amiss, some of the forwards are upgradeable also, but that won`t be happening.
Paul O'Keefe's under the impression that barring a miracle we shouldn't get any hopes up of a signing by tomorrow's deadline. Expects the glass Argie and Reguilon to depart and that's it. What an extremely underwhelming window.
Solanke and 4 teenagers and 1 of them doesn’t even arrive until January. Underwhelming is generous imo. Pleased with the exits though especially if Reguilon and Lo Celso are moved on permanently tomorrow.
It's been pretty underwhelming for everyone though. Barring an avalanche of movement tomorrow, PL spending is down something like £650m on last year's window, which in a year with a major intl tournament putting dozens of players on display, is highly unusual. There is a real dearth of quality out there at the moment. Most of the top, top talent either moved very recently and/or are very settled at huge clubs with no intention of going anywhere. And in a weird quirk of capitalism, it doesn't help that half of La Liga (including Barca) and Serie A are skint as it leads to less overall movement. It seems a lot of teams are betting the house on the next superstar emerging either as a relative unknown/player from a much smaller league, or as a highly rated youngster who actually fulfils their promise. We're clearly in the second camp. Teams signing 'known' names, like West Ham and Fulham, have shown impressive ambition but only relative to their level. Looking at who's moved where, there are barely a handful of players I would have liked to see move to Spurs instead of their eventual destinations. Beyond one of Ugarte/Onana, Kadioglu and Calafiori, I'm not really all that bothered about the signings made by our PL rivals.
I agree about the quality ratio. I made a point a few weeks/ months back how the likely contenders for the Balon d'Or this time around highlight football's slight decline. That's not to say that quality isn't out there though, it may just mean looking a bit harder. In terms of the market this window, I think the fact it's been relatively flat and underwhelming should've resulted in Spurs taking advantage and capitalising on it. We're a club that will generally need a window of opportunity to potentially do something big and it feels like this could/ would've been it. There was a relatively small window under Poch where some proper investment could've seen Spurs do almost the unthinkable, of course the stadium situation back then came at the worst possible time and we can look to blame that. This time under Ange though there isn't such issues and whilst this squad isn't near Pochettino's at present, there is/ was a solid platform to build upon and I don't think we've really taken it. The young signings are all extremely exciting and I'm genuinely intrigued to see where their ceiling's lie but we almost certainly won't be seeing the very best of them until a few years, which by then a bunch of current key players may have either declined or left. It's currently hard to predict Spurs to have a better season than last at the moment. Ange seems to be in good spirits though and that's a good sign to me. Even if I do feel we've not done enough to help him out.
