Not great but no point keeping a player the manager doesn’t rate just to fill a quota (leave that sort of stuff to the bbc )
Completely agree. I've long said the HG/ CG quotas don't worry me half as much as reports try doing. Ultimately if you have your 17 foreign spots covered which we do, then the four HG spots covered which we also do, that's 21 senior players at least to attack a season, if any/ all of the CG spots aren't filled then in theory it's an opportunity to give promising young players a go which is always something I've been for anyway.
Maybe this is the reason for the delay in loaning out Alfie Devine . Perhaps he will take Skipps place in the squad. He’s had an excellent pre season. Solomon can be loaned out and then offload Reguilon and Lo Celso and replace with 2 more signings.
I imagine we will name both Austin and Whiteman in the UEFA squad and leave out either Vicario or Forster to enable us to select all our other squad players (assuming Solomon, Lo Celso and Reguilon leave). But if we sign anyone else then someone won't be able to play in Europe. I don't think Udogie, Odobert, Gray or Bergvall qualify to be on List B as they have not been at the club long enough so use up one of the 21 non home grown slots. I think all four qualify as U21 in domestic competitions so we still have some free slots for new signings.
If as a Spurs fan you fell into a Coma the week before Ange got the job and woke up after this deadline day , it would be WTF happened here !!! All the years we have struggled to refresh our squad
We definitely won't leave Vicario out of Europa, he's our first choice keeper. Assuming I've remembered everyone, I think our current UEFA squad will look something like: Currently 15 foreign players: Vicario Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Dragusin, Udogie Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr, Bergvall Son, Werner, Kulusevski, Odobert Richarlison 4 HG players: Spence, Davies, Maddison and Solanke 2 CG players: Austin and Whiteman Reguilon, Lo Celso and Solomon to be sold/ loaned. This currently leaves space for two of Forster, Gray and Johnson who can take a spot in the foreign quota. Johnson is guaranteed one and I'd expect Gray to be selected over Forster. If we do make another signing then things might become a little trickier, maybe there will be a surprise departure before the deadline, Bissouma could be a candidate at the moment.
It’s a shame Skipp didn’t really progress since his introduction to the squad. I really thought he had the makings of being our captain one day. Best of luck to him.
His ankle injuries really sapped a lot of momentum Ironic that the exact same happened to Harry Winks
Seems a great lad with a good attitude. Top level football is ruthless though and it’s best for both parties that he moves on. Hope he does well for them and gets regular football.
This window marks a stark departure from many, many years of our general strategy. It seems that the words "useful squad player" are more or less redundant now. Working hard or being a consummate professional are now lesser qualities than fitting the system as Ange interprets it. Poch managed a squad overflowing with "useful players" like Moura, Sissoko, Winks and Sanchez who were top pros but didn't fit the game as he intended it to be played. So we coped fine when we had to turn to them for the occasional cameo or cover, but when they stepped in for longer periods, or became first choice players themselves, the results were disastrous. Both Jose and Conte asked for this change in approach and both were denied it. We ended up with a patchwork squad littered with ill-fitted players assembled with little commonality, and as a result our windows have resembled a bit of a car boot sale. I think the next casualty of this will be Davies, albeit the club will probably allow him to reach the end of his contract next summer out of respect, and then leave as a free agent.
He's not going anywhere this calendar year or season I reckon. Ange rates him highly as a squad pro (and he's Sonny's best mate ) and tbh we need someone with his experience and reliability in such a transformational year. But he's also completing his coaching certs, so I'm wondering if the club might be keen to keep him on the staff. DH and I disagree on the timeframe, but I think he might actually retire from playing sooner than expected. He's a bright lad and appears to have a clear vision of his future.
Sounds like Skipp's passed his medical, so I'd imagine a deal will be announced before the game today, might be one of those situations he's presented before the game or at HT to greet the Leicester fans and bid farewell to ours, be nice if that were the case, he's Tottenham through and through and deserves a send off.
It's a real shame that injury and the chaos of coaching appointments have resulted in him moving on. He's a better player than he's had opportunity to show us. Leicester must rate him highly. They've got **** all money following their financial doping over the previous decade, so committing £20m is a big thing, even if it's made up largely of future Maddison payments being written off. I hope that he gets back to where he was after that season loan at Norwich...a top prospect with a great career ahead of him. Shame it has to start with 'them'. Skippy
The biggest issue with Poch's squad is, after a certain period of time, pretty much every signing did not pan out as expected - Sanchez did not live up to the hype, let alone the price tag - Foyth got bitten hard the injury bug (which hasn't been an issue since he left) - Janssen's confidence was shot pretty much out of the gate - Nkoudou never seemed to be match fit from the moment of his (much-delayed) arrival - Aurier has seen me write several mini-essays on his arrival making zero sense - Sessegnon arrived injured and his hamstrings were made of chewing gum - Ndombele didn't live up to the hype, price tag, or role in Poch's system - Lo Celso couldn't play half a dozen games in a row without a knock or injury
I'm gutted that we've sold Skipp, to be honest. I feel like we've failed him. Our midfield vastly underperformed last season, which wasn't helped by some very poor choices in other positions. We've failed to bring anyone in to strengthen that role and we didn't even give him a run there to prove himself. Our total lack of club grown outfield players is both an embarrassment and a squad deficit. We've got a crop of promising youngsters coming through and it's vital that we don't **** up their progress, too.
Agreed, there’s no loyalty in football these days and it’s a shame. I believed Skipp had the potential to be our new “perryman”. Hopefully he will be back one day.
