So here's what we're getting For me what stands out is the clips against Saltypool, where they're either doubling up on him or scything him down Also think that it's safe to say that Eze is off the table this summer please log in to view this image
It does make sense to cut out the middle man (ie Brighton et all) and build your own team of superstars. I think we can see a new strategy from Spurs and it's showing confidence in our manager too. It doesen't always work of course, Bryan Gill for example, but in an ever inflating market buying just before peak value is worth a try.
I see it as more of a practical decision than a financial one. The club has seen that when we attempt to spend huge money, we rarely receive a huge player in return - simply because most of them aren't interested in coming to Spurs as despite the fact that we can double or triple most players' wages quite easily, we don't win trophies and can't yet provide regular CL football. So we end up with the B-grade rip-offs who've been clogging up the squad and wage bill for years without improving us one iota. What's intriguing is that Chelsea have exactly the same problem - the genuinely superb players seem to have no interest in moving there (ready to eat my humble pie when Osimhen joins them) as they also don't win trophies on a regular basis anymore, can't provide PL and are overall a very unstable club. Their solution to the problem is to throw money at everyone and everything and hope some of it sticks to a youngster who turns out to be more like Cole Palmer, less like Mikhail Mudryk. Our approach is vastly more sensible but as you say, it will require a hell of a lot of patience from a fanbase with every justification to act impatiently.
Bigger fee than I expected. Yeah Solomon will be 4th/5th choice now Rumours of Locatelli for around £20million.
There's another possibility: if we move Deki into the middle fulltime this season, we need backup for Johnson on the right Though it has to be said that we've started addressing the winger clutter by moving on or we're about to move on Gil, Solomon and Sessegnon which would free up a path into the team for Mikey Moore - then add another one
The finances point at this being our best route to attempt to win things. A number of us have been touting this approach for years. I preferred this to the appointment of Mourinho in 2019. If we get the recruitment right and pathways for those players to get first team football, we'll have a team in 2 or 3 seasons, that we couldn't afford had we tried to buy them then. If we can't or won't spend our way to success, we need to work smarter and harder than those who can. It's that or piss money away on players who won't quite be good enough, as we've been doing for a while now.
Given that we have 8 EL matches to play I think we need two senior players and one U21 player for each position. If Solomon leaves that's pretty close to what we've got in the front three and midfield.
Given the amount of sitters Burnley missed last season, you'd expect his assist percentage to improve with Solanke and Sonny at the other end
Definitely a moneyball style signing. I don’t remember hearing anyone rave about him last season. Did he play both games against Spurs?
I would also imagine that we’re looking at Kulu as primarily a midfielder this season just based on preseason and our signings. So the wingers are Son, Werner, Johnson, Odobert, Werner, and Moore. Plus you can play Richy off the left if you need to, or Kulu off the right, and Solomon is an option but I think we’ll get rid tbh.
Love the fact we’ve signed a player that Romano and co couldn’t really ruin the surprise on but it is also somewhat a weird one. Thought that we’d target a first choice winger, hence why there were links to Neto and we supposedly had interest in Williams. But let’s see what he’s got, I hope he gets some minutes, otherwise it might have been better to do a Dele/ Sarr/ Udogie type deal. Burnley fans seem to think he’ll be a star, so let’s hope they’re a good judge of talent/ potential.
Good news in both, new contract for a huge talent and Orient’s been a very rewarding club for us to send players on loan to in the past.
Honestly kinda refreshing wasn’t it. Nobody had a clue until just before. I think it’s a real vote of confidence in Johnson. But Odobert looks bright, and exciting. He can play either side so I’m sure he’ll get minutes.
