I would have donated half my organs to have been in his position and play professional football. To simply waste it all (albeit whilst being payed a phenomenal wage..) is something I simply cannot get my head around....
Yeah talent wise he’s got to all. Stinking attitude and didn’t want it enough. He will regret that later in life. Lo Celso has been an horrific signing for different reasons. Injured far too much and even when fit he just didn’t do anything. Personally I never saw anything about him that stood out or made him unique.
Not at all (his bank balance for one would beg to differ) . All you can debate is that he has : 1. not got close to the success his ability suggests is/was possible 2. immorally earned whatever wages Spurs have paid him. On #1, if he does not care, then that is that. Similarly for #2 (though I would contrast specifically with BAE - who made it clear that football was just his job - but still put in a decent shift whenever in the starting XI) .
Literally too fragile for the PL, and sadly playing there has probably cost him the prime years of his career. Similarly for Gil, but in this case he can be released and still have the prime years of his career in La liga etc.
That’s often how I’ve seen it. Ndombele is **** because he never tried, despite possessing elite level ability. Lo Celso is **** because he’s **** and made of glass. Then there was Sessegnon who was horrific and made of biscuit.
I'm pleased to see the spirits and confidence is high... it's only a few more years now until things start getting very interesting, so the heat is on your recruitment this summer.
Ndombele is by a distance the worst of the three. There was genuine excitement when we signed Sess and Lo Celso. Their failure imo have been more down to their inability to adapt to the physicality of the PL than anything else. Perhaps in a universe where they don't pick up any injuries, things would've turned out differently. Ndombele came with a suitcase full of known problems. Auxerre, Caen and Amiens all rejected him over concerns about his attitude and weight. Lyon took a chance on him and it worked for a few seasons before he signed for us. The fact we pursued such a high risk player for two years, passing up on far more sensible options, then broke our transfer record to sign him, simply beggars belief and imo is up there as one of the main reasons it was right to sack Poch.
Terrible decision but it does show that Levy was trying to back Poch. Transfers are always a risk but making your record signing a player with issues is hard to understand. Get him ok, but not for top dollar. It's easily the worst deal Spurs have made because the dangers were visible.
We all do that... if the player is expensive and has a good youtube video it's time to rock out with your cocks out, but otherwise you initially hate the signing and then slowly but surely you hear people trying to convince you to get hard about it. Essentially there's always one guy that will buck anything.
Even when fit (rare occasions) Lo Celso and Sessegnon still looked gash though. Not disputing Ndombele was the worst of the 3 (because of the fee) but the other two just never offered anything at all.
Worse: we even got Pini Zahavi on a retainer to get the deal completed smoothly That would be the same Pini Zahavi who just so happened to be Ndombele's agent...
It's a sad state of affairs when a fat, lazy mess like him is capable of having better performances than you. You'd have to question if professional football is for you if you can't perform better than that waste of space.
Lo Celso had a run of games under Maureen where he looked pretty good. Also had a bit of a flourish last season. Sessegnon literally didn't do anything of note from the day he joined. A classic example of a player too good for the Championship but not good enough for the PL.
To be fair, Sessegnon did have a good run of games during the 21-22 run-in, not least pocketing Salah then Saka within a few days The main issue with him, though, is it always felt like the plan was more to do with signing someone who could slot into the system due to being an ersatz Danny Rose first and foremost instead of looking for either a potential gamechanger or even someone with a different toolset who could fit into Poch's system yet also revitalise it by offering something new, for example signing a LB with the pace of Rose but also the crossing ability of Trippier would have been transformative - but the summer of 2019 seemed to be more about signing facsimiles for players we had, i.e. Ndombele for Dembele, Sessegnon for Rose, Lo Celso for Dele
