£5m-£7m is 2015 thinking. The market nowadays for HG players is nuts. Players going for triple/ quadruple their value. If the injuries are behind him now which they seem to be, he’s a Prem quality CB. Starts for a good 6-8 sides.
I think you're looking at it from the narrow perspective of a big PL club desperate to add HG players. We will be fleeced as a result and if it were the other way round and we were trying to sign him off Millwall after a good season, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them ask for £15m. The bottom 6-8 teams in the PL tend to be far less desperate. It is still very rare for a Championship player to go for £15m+. Off the top of my head only Watkins, Wharton, Scott and Bowen come to mind which suggests the absolute top percentile of talent will command that sort of a few. Not sure Tanganga is as good as that tbh.
I’m looking at it from an inflated HG market perspective, which it’s been for about 5-6 years. There's also a smaller aspect in that a decent portion of unwanted HG players at Big Six clubs have left for questionable fees. Solanke left Pool for £20m after one league goal in two years, they also sold Danny Ward for about £13m and I don't even think he played for them, Elanga left Utd last summer for £15m. Whilst you can say Solanke has finally looked decent, none of these players were of a higher pedigree than Tanganga at the time of their departures. It's hard to believe we wouldn't have at least got £10m for him had we extended his deal to then sell, £10m to a Prem club is obviously peanuts but it's still something to put towards wages or a transfer in a market that is becoming incredibly overshadowed by FFP, thankfully we're in a very healthy position on that but equally that shouldn't mean we just throw away money either. As for your second point, it's nowhere near as rare as I think you believe it to be, you're probably looking at well over 30 transfers from Championship clubs where the fee has been or exceeded £15m and I don't even include players like Maddison for instance who were sold from a recently relegated club.
You're right. There are well over 40 who've moved for £15m or more, but the overwhelming majority of them came from PL experience, especially from recently relegated clubs. And I suppose it's true: Unlike the likes of Scott and Wharton, Japhet actually does have a decent chunk of PL experience. I stand corrected.
The issue with Japh is that for a 25 year old he really hasn’t played a huge amount of games. Some of that has been mismanagement, including loans, but he’s also had his injury problems which have contributed. I’d understand clubs being nervous about him. If he stays fit someone’s getting a very good player for no outlay. But I understand clubs’ nervousness about paying more than a cursory fee.
Not played a lot and not actually that good either. Take away his Spurs connection and he’s nothing special.
Royal to AC Milan looks like a deal , they want him ,he wants the move , just the fee to sort out , lock Levy in the cheese room for a couple of days and get it done
Hi guys I've not been on for a while, so thought I'd pop over and see what your thoughts on the sponsorship rules being proven illegal and removed as an obstacle for rich clubs?
We will soon see I feel.... over the coming years I believe I'll start having more and more success. It's a shame because some of you lads are top... unfortunately that will not stop me... the foundations of your boards torment are now set.
Didn't realise it had tbh...thought city were challenging it. Personally speaking, I don't give a **** as teams will always find ways to circumvent rules. It ain't a new thing. Amateur rules were broken, wage rules were broken, back handers were rife, fees to agents are hidden, countries bride officials to get world cups etc. Just hope clubs don't end up going under as a result. Coventry, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford, Barnsley, Portsmouth to name just a few have never really recovered from their screw ups.
My club despite the tears is going to annoy everyone even more by doing things within the rules... the long game essentially... the plan is to ensure we boil piss good and proper. https://x.com/LukeEdwardsTele/status/1798421836428132452?t=kOO-HspED4prETHZJxne-A&s=19
Do you think you'll start the season with Howe in charge...wondered if you were gonna go for pochettino
Yeah he's got plenty credit...I personally think our injury problems are down to his style of play, but we're one game a week again so I think he'll be expected to do quite well again.
Quite a few journos are linking us with Murillo. Forest are desperate to sell a few players in order to balance the books, and as a young left footed CB with PL experience it makes a lot of sense. He can also fill in at LB which would probably pushes Davies a step closer to the exit. Comfortable on the ball and with good pace, but not great in the air from the little I've seen of him. Circa £25-30m being bounced around.
I think that Forest are trying to create a market for him, but it wouldn't surprise me if teams were interested. He's been linked with us, Liverpool, Man Utd and PSG recently. City and Chelsea looked at him previously, too. Joined a new agency earlier in the year, so it could be their doing, alternatively.
