Veliz and Werner were practically overnight The issue these days is that release clauses are astronomical so there's little chance of anyone paying those in one go (barring relegation release clauses) coupled with how numerous clubs hoover up young talent and then move them on with hefty sell-on fees in spite never playing them which tends to drag out negotiations as instead of paying the one club more often than not you wind up paying two, which was the case for us with Porro and Lo Celso to name but two
Can’t remember the last time a deadline day was actually dead. Literally no clubs are making any significant moves. I think Palace’s pending deal for Adam Wharton is likely to be the biggest one at circa £20m. All other clubs just seem to be selling or loaning out players. Football clubs are becoming as skint as us common folk.
I know very little about Wharton but that fee makes it a bit of a risk for him and the club. Especially when you think about what we got Phillips for from the same club.
Didn’t Phillips have a release clause though? Feel like there was a reason we got him for stupidly cheap. **** knows why they’d put a clause in for a young player but we ain’t complaining.
Broja going to Fulham on loan, hopefully he scores the goals to help Fulham finish above their neighbours
Oh yeah maybe there was. Either way I think we’ve done good business there. Getting good reviews at Argyle
Chelsea demanded £5m for the Brojan loan for 16 games. On deadline day they cave and Fulham will only have to pay anything if he plays more than 8 matches.
I never understand this sort of deal. Fulham aren't getting relegated, so they'll just play him to the limit and stop. That's no good for the player or either club.
We’ve had great success with these “buy now, join later” deals after Dele, Sarr and Udogie so if he can follow in their footsteps we’ll be onto another winner. This is also one of Lange’s first concrete own signings I believe too so will be interesting to see how he fares in comparison to Don Fabio’s bunch.
Consider these as "speculate to accumulate" operations. If they do not work out, then try to make offloading them a "zero sum" game at worst. At best you could at least get something like the first three seasons of Dele Alli.
Meeting Kulusevski at our training ground was a factor apparently, that and Barca not having a pot to piss in might have swung it
Dragusin rejecting Bayern and now Bergvall rejecting Barca. One whiff of that Aussie BBQ and they couldn’t say no.
This is the type of punt I'll get behind every day of the week. Not throwing £30m at some kid who has just broken through at Brugges. Leave that kind of behaviour to Chelsea.
