Emmanuel Luiz is talking up Argentinos Juniors DM Federico Redondo as a potential January signing

Normally I'd be tempted to ignore this, given Luiz is hardly a Romano let alone a Di Marzio, though given his style of play has plenty of similarities with Andre Trindade both in terms of his reading of the game for when he needs to nick the ball of players and how he uses his physique to hold onto the ball when moving forwards, it's not so easy to dismiss out of hand - though it also has to be said that the way he distributes the ball is different from Andre, as Andre moves forward with the ball and releases the ball 10, 15, 20 yards up the pitch from where he won it, while Redondo tends to play through balls from deeper...though it seems every scouting site can't resist comparing him to Sergio Busquets

It also has to be said there's another reason to have Redondo lined up as insurance in case Andre becomes a transfer auction: Andre is contracted until December 2026, while Redondo's contract is up to December 2024 - in other words, he'll have less than a year on his contract come January 1st which aids negotiation significantly, and it has to be said having Romero and Veliz around will make it easier for him to settle

And yes, in case you were wondering, he is the son of Fernando Redondo

Certainly looks like a Perisic replacement in our current system, given he tends to hug the left touchline and looks to cross the ball into the box

Given he'll have 18 months on his contract come January, and he'd be pure profit for Juve as they signed him for a nominal fee to play in their U19s back in 2020, it's possible we could reach a deal for a very reasonable fee - or, given Hojbjerg has been linked with Juve recently, we knock a few million off the price if they include Iling as part of the deal

Slight problem: he says Gimenez could be available for €45m in January, when Feyenoord have said for at least a month they won't listen to a bid less than the €80m Man Utd paid Ajax for Anthony last year

 

If I was looking to sell a player for lots of money, then the last person I'd mention would be Antony.

Maybe that's why the fee suddenly went back to the figure being bandied about in September...?

 

Another way of looking at it is they’re saying if ****e players like Anthony are worth that much then they want at least the same amount for their prized asset.

 

The other other way is to suggest that Ajax and Feyenoord get a ruler, because that's the vibe I'm getting form it...

 

Which is entirely fair and understandable.

They've got a great shot at a Champions League place this season.
Ajax have imploded and won't be challenging the top 2.
Feyenoord might not catch PSV, but they should take the runner up spot.

Asking for £80m is basically **** You money.
I'd want us to do something similar in their position.
They'll probably cash in during the summer and make a similar amount, too.
