What're the odds we do what we did when Pompey owed us a pile of cash for Defoe and Pedro Mendes and just write it off against the cost of their players?

Or, to put things another way, make Richy £10m cheaper?

Or rather, some sort of leverage if we want Branthwaite or Onana in the future. Both very promising young players who I think would add to our squad.

...and right on cue, here they come, albeit the sources are more than a little shaky

    - El Universal have linked us with Club America's Sebastian Caceres - so a Uruguayan playing in Mexico for a club called America, which is guaranteed to confuse somebody out there
    - Tuttosport have brought up Lloyd Kelly, albeit in the context of Milan looking to sign him and saying that we're still interested
    - 90mins say we're still considering Trevor Chalobah
    - Fichajes have linked us with A German Club's Ko Itakura, who was linked with us in the summer

Other names getting mentioned in the Twittersphere but not by anyone willing to put their name are names we've been linked with in the past, such as Nice's Jean-Claire Todibo and Stuttgart's Hiroki Ito

Spurs continue to be linked with Furuhashi
It seems obvious clickbait for all these transfer rumour articles, but it doesn’t seem to be going away.
He’ll be 29 in January and he’s only 5’7”. Not sure he fits the profile of a centre forward Spurs need when Son can play that role with much more ability and class - and added height.

Realistically he doesn't fit in with the profile of forwards Ange goes for

At all his clubs the first choice striker is a bit pacey workrate monster, and the option on the bench is a target man - and we have both of those, as Sonny's the pacey workrate monster and Veliz is the target man, plus we also have Richy in the back pocket as he's a pain in the backside for opposition defenders

As there's no chance of him displacing Son up front, as that's more likely going to be a forward with a profile similar to Jonathan David or Santi Gimenez, it's exceptionally unlikely

Well… last night confirmed what we already knew.
We need another CB desperately (maybe 2 in total), especially if European football is on the cards next season. Getting 1 in January to help us in the short term and be ready for next season is an absolute must, IMO.

in other non news, Maddison needing to be wrapped in cotton wool also means we need to seriously address that situation in Jan, especially with Lo Celso out of favour.

We’ve gotta really go all out for a good CB too. Can’t be doing barrel scraping with Tosin, who’s no better than Dier. Hoping Munn and co have spotted another van de Ven somewhere, Tapsoba’s off the cards now as he’s committed to Leverkusen but it’s a position we really need to have some quality depth in.

There were reports just the other day saying we’d sell Lo Celso for £15m. Good luck finding a buyer but we can live in hope. Half tempted to recall Devine in January (if we can), probably the best bet of being a decent understudy to Maddison.

I also think another LB should be on the agenda in January (with a RB to follow in the summer). I’ve always been appreciative of Davies but seeing Udogie this season (bar last night <laugh>) has made me realise the quality gap between the pair is a bit too big, as is the actual style of player too, Davies isn’t a good fit for this system and going forward we need a team and squad capable of being such.

truth be told, there’s probably about 6 players on our ideal shopping list. They’re never gonna happen in Jan, but we could certainly do with bringing in 2 or 3, and at the START of January too. Rotation, as well as our lack of midweek football could see us genuinely have a good season, but we must twist in January. Otherwise we’ll be limping over the line come April/may.

Oh for sure, we all know the rebuild is miles away from being done and won’t be done within the next window or two.

I agree that 2-3 should be targeted in January. IIRC we never capitalised on Pochettino’s team’s form in the 15/16 and 16/17 windows by strengthening in the January windows, I know the stadium was being built back then but with hindsight a couple of key signings could’ve been difference in one or two positions, the latter season being second to first. And with the start we’ve made this season coupled by the exciting football, I really hope the club doesn’t rest on what’s been done and instead with the aim of what could be done with a few more faces.

So in the past 24 hours our January transfer list has these three things nailed to the top of it
    - A CB, due to Micky van's hamstring going
    - A LW, with Richy needing pelvic/groin surgery
    - A CM, as we are pushing our luck with Maddison at this point even if we have Bentancur coming back into fitness
    - A ban for that stupid Geordie ****
But other than that, Mrs Lincoln, how was the play...?

I couldn’t agree more with this. You can see this season unravelling pretty quickly unless we get at least another 2-3 quality signings. I know January isn’t easy to get high quality transfers over the line, but we have to back the manager. It’s likely we will get into Europe next season at some level, and we would be totally ****ed right now if we had Europe to contend with as well. Leaving it to the summer will be too late and will just put us back another season.

We were reportedly watching Andre (aka Andre Trindade) at the Copa Libertadores final the other day

As I mentioned back in August when there were some initial whispers linking him with us (albeit from 90mins, so nobody good...) he's basically the DM we've needed for about five years at this point, and more importantly he does have the sort of profile for Angeball as when we're in possession he can receive the ball from the back, take it 15-20 yards up the pitch and then release a teammate with a through ball - yet when we're not in possession his positioning and reading means he can be in the right place to nick the ball off an opponent without needing to go to ground and setting us on our way

While not a top priority as of 9 o'clock this morning, what with CB and LW becoming a lot more relevant overnight (literally...), he is definitely the player we need for a midfield remodel

Mexican sources claim we've submitted a formal offer to sign Sebastian Caceres from Club America

I guess it's comp time then...

I think a lot of Premier League clubs are. I know the Goons have been linked, too.
The Spam are planning an ambitious bid for him as well, apparently.
Signed some good midfielders in the last window.

Fulham were linked in the summer, albeit because they were expecting a Palhinha-shaped hole in their midfield

Matteo Moretto says we're monitoring genoa striker Albert Gudmundsson...thought 90% of what he says is behind a particularly aggressive paywall

I'm going to assume that the fact he's recently been dropped by the Iceland NT pending the result of a sexual assault investigation is buried behind demands for cookies, AdBlock to be switched off and your credit card details

Just as well. The guy is a cnut and I've said for months I wouldn't want him - and his attitude - anywhere near our club.

CalcioMercato and Fichajes both claim we're looking at Gleison Bremer (again) for January

Meanwhile, 90mins are linking us to G Fuel Vienna striker Karim Konate...but if they think we'll get him for the £3m he costs on Football Manager, they're certifiable
