It needs to be high because we’ve signed disappointing players on big money. That’s meant we have to sell at a loss and additionally recruit to improve, rather than being able to use the players in question and sell for a bigger fee than we’re currently looking at. If Sanchez had been a roaring success we wouldn’t have bought Romero and wouldn’t be looking at selling him at such a massive loss.
It's always a project. Words have fashions just like many parts of our culture . The project with Spurs is about moving to a higher level and to some extent that has already happened. We finished 8th last season, after a really poor season with little enjoyment. I only remember enjoying the games against City, but 8th was the norm in most years of Spurs life. We now expect top 6 at least and that is proof of progress. The New Stadium has raised the clubs profile and you can see how the media has changed towards Spurs. Go back pre Pochettino and during Pochettino and Spurs were not considered in the "SKY 4" that has become a top 6 with Spurs expected to feature. Now with Newcastle and possibly Villa maybe soon a top 8. Whatever it is, everyone expects Spurs to be in the mix. That's progress. Without the new stadium I doubt Mourinho and Conte would have considered coming to Spurs (Some of us would have preferred if they hadn't.) Spurs profile has risen around the world and this has encouraged some players to come here. Spurs income is now above Arsenal and, if it stays that way, in the long term it will make a difference. All of this is because of clever financial decisions made by Levy (and overcharging fans) but the football itself is much more hit and miss but it's clear in this league that money talks so just think where Spurs might be if Levy hadn't been such a shrewd financial operator. PowerSpurs has explained many times how transfer success is a lottery for all teams and I agree with him. "With our revenues and financial stability, we shouldn’t have to settle for something which feels like it’s going to take years to get back to where we were" Quoting Roo. Where we were when? I take it you mean with Pochettino? I can't see us getting back to the Nicholson years, just yet. This we don't know and it's more difficult now even than it was when Poch was here. When Ange speaks I find myself nodding in agreement and lets not forget the speed with which he transformed our midfield. At least we can have hope, yep, I know AGAIN but that's football, don't you just love it?
Sarr is capable of playing in both the deeper role Bissouma plays and the box-to-box role he's currently deployed in, so it's less and either/or than it first appears Now, of course, if we can find a player in a less fashionable who has the exact same attributes as Connor Gallagher but costs half of what the Chavs are asking for...
Joao Palhinha to Bayern appears to be on the verge of collapse Hey, Uli? Chuck us £20m and you'll have Hojbjerg in time for abendbrot...
Just a reminder that not all transfer windows shut at the same time. Germany's has already shut, ours is at 11pm and those behind the wall is at midnight. Most of Europe is today, but Turkey has another two weeks and Belgium has 5 days. The latter's probably only relevant for possible loans.
Well if he bobs and weaves as well as this character he'll do ok. Until he's found out anyway. From the clips I've seen he reminds me of Bryan Gill with muscle. No not ****ing Boris.
Palhinha to Bayern is off, apparently because Fulham's bid for Scott McTominay was rejected based on how Fabrizio Romano phrased it Just a reminder that we're not the only club struggling to shift deadwood, as Man Utd have Maguire, Bailley, van de Beek and McTominay in the departure lounge but nobody is biting ...but this probably scuppers Hojbjerg to Fulham
Hojbjerg to Atleti seems to be off so doubtful we get Gallagher. Looks like it’s just gonna be Johnson.
