He isn’t really that long term to be fair as he’s 27 and not a sound logic signing a player who’s unavailable for the first half of the season.
The signing won’t even need to be a dud, they might be an “ok” player but we’re talking about losing one of the top strikers on the planet. It’s arguably less riskier to keep him, hopefully have a good season and then get him to commit, than sell him and almost certainly sign someone nowhere near as good and likely have a weaker season for it.
The thing with selling H is that, realistically, we'd need at least two strikers to replace him - so instead of putting all out eggs in a potentially Soldado-shaped basket we'd have two strikers capable of scoring at least 15 goals a season, more with the right service Case in point, in the last week or two I've seen Benfica's Goncalo Ramos linked with the assumption we'll spend big on him, but the obvious issue there is that while his style of play does have similarities with H's there's no ignoring that while he scored 27 in 47 in all competitions last season, the previous season he scored 8 in 46 so there's still an element of a gamble there Similar can be said for another potential big money signing in Dusan Vlahovic, who certainly looked the business with his absurd scoring rate at Fiorentina (21 in 40 in one season, 20 in 24 in the half season before he went to Juve) but at Juve he's dropped to 9 in 21 in his half season and 14 in 42 in his first full season so he's less of a potential sure thing than he was 18 months ago, plus his style of play is closer to Haaland so isn't a like-for-like replacement or, to put it another way, might need further squad tinkering And don't get me started on Feyenoord's Santi Gimenez, even if his wife's ass looks like this...
I suggested Ramos and Mehdi Taremi a while ago and we've since been linked with both. One's a little too young and the other is a little too old individually, but together it could work. Start the Iranian this season with the Portuguese getting time from the bench, then switch next year.
Utd were linked with Ramos a few weeks ago if what is reported has any basis in truth, but his buy-out clause is €110M
Luckily we haven't done anything to irritate Benfica in the last three years that could possible affect negotiations...
It's been suggested that they'd take €70m or something near that number. Taremi's price is supposedly around the €17m mark.
I TOLD YOU IT LOOKED LEGIT! Whilst I admire the optimism, Spurs, I’ve got more chance of bagging Ana de Armas and Maya Jama in a single evening.
I can't see why not, swapping the Champs- Elysees for the Tottenham high road , La Table de Colette for Chick king Arc De Triomphe for the Philip Lane
This is clearly bollocks, but even if it wasn't, Mbappe wouldn't be on a list of my targets for Spurs at this stage of redevelopment. Prima Donna who would split the dressing room and likely undermine a new and non-elite coach. And I don't think even the lure of Chick King would convince him to move to N17 either!
