Assuming Kane has been offered a five year deal the opportunity cost to us is close to £200m (half lost transfer fee plus salary) which suggests we value him at £40m a year. While he is definitely worth that it is a bonkers world that makes it so. Anyone buying him has a larger total outlay.
£40m p.a. would only be justified if we have success over the period. How we measure success is the key. I suspect qualifying for CL is the bare minimum each year. Definitely worth a gamble.
You could argue that the lost transfer fee is made up for by how much Kane makes the club in return. Most other strikers wouldn’t be able to bring in the revenue to the club he does nor help the club earn as much through his performances (League and CL especially). But completely agree, the money in football is beyond bonkers.
We’re one of the clubs being linked with Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga. Kids a serious talent and looks every bit the kind of 8 Ange would want, but I imagine it’ll be a bidding war on personal terms if not on fee (release clause is £35m).
Sanchez appears to be going which gets us back within the limit. We are I assume looking at at least 4 overseas players going out - Lo Celso and Perisic look likely, and Hugo and Hojbjerg we seem to be 'happy' to lose. There is no doubt that a couple more home grown players wouldn't go amiss but they are expensive and we are not being linked with any other a couple of tenuous reports about Sancho.
Off the top of my head the overseas players likely to depart break down into three categories Confirmed Interest Lo Celso (Romano says Betis are looking to sign him) Sanchez (interest form Turkey) Perisic (talk of him returning to Hajduk Split) Likely Interest Hojbjerg (Atletico and Bayern both linked) Lloris (Inter linked) Suggestions They'll Be Dumped Reguilon That's likely between four and six, which is likely necessary given the CBs we're linked with tend to be overseas
Of course if he is worth £40m a year then he can ask for most of that in salary if he leaves on a free next year. Big incentive for him to stay...
He has only got a year left on his contract so he is apparently worth £7m plus his salary for a years play. That's pretty much exactly what he has cost us over time.
Hugo, Sanchez, Dier, Emerson, Reguilon, Perisic, Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Richarlison could essentially be canned tonight to reduce non-HG numbers and we'd only have to replace about three of those (one already has been with Vicario). Kind of mad how bloated our squad is with largely dog ****e and I've not even mentioned the couple HG players that should be booted too. Ange said he's used to rebuilding and has done it at pretty much every job he's had... good luck with this one, mate!
Not a chance we'll sell Richarlison so soon after spending (wasting) all that money on him. If there's talk of Tanguy being given one more chance to be a professional footballer, Richarlison will definitely get at least another year or two. Royal, as limited as he is, will actually do much better in Ange's system than he did as a wing-back. He's an excellent athlete and pretty good defensively, I can see room for him for games in which we need to be a bit more solid at the back than Porro or Spence offer. Dier is sadly not going anywhere, he has apparently said he wants to stay and fight for his place. I just sincerely hope after half a dozen good performances the club doesn't start wafting a new contract at him. Sanchez, Hugo, Lo Celso, Reguilon, Perisic are all hopefully gone this window, with Hojbjerg another. This just leaves Rodon, Tanganga, Sessegnon (honestly worrying that there is no talk at all linking him with a move away...what can four successive managers see in him?!) as the British departures. Not a chance we're shedding 9 senior players in one window I'm afraid. Even 4-5 of them would be huge progress compared to any window in the past 4 years.
I think we’ll get closer than you think. Winks is gone, Perisic and Lloris we will likely let go for nominal fees (if we even ask for money), Sanchez and GLC linked with moves already, Hojbjerg too. That’s 6 without even considering Rodon, Tanganga, Sess or Reggie. Obviously the big IF is Levy letting Ange and the team trim the squad as they see fit but I could see 6 out the door without too many arguments and then we see how the window develops.
Yeah for sure. Not a chance we'll shift them all but just highlighting that we could and barely feel any loss. I think there could be a late bid for Dier though, right now we hear he wants to stay and fight which may deter any interested parties but I think reality might hit him later in the window assuming we sign one or two CBs and so in a season without Europe, his game time will be non-existent barring any injuries, so might get his agent to make a couple calls. If it were down to me, I'd sell Emerson but keep Tanganga, he can play defensive RB as well as CB, is CG and I still feel there's a very decent defender in there that's just been hampered by injuries and manager bias. Won't happen though.
you know that Dier is going to play out of his skin and be on top of this game for the new manager in the first 10 games of the season, get his contract and somehow turn into pascal cygan
Yep. It's on the wall. New contract or England call up are his cues to regress into Titus Bramble. Knowing us we'll probably also tell him he can have the armband after Kane leaves.
