I hope it works out for him. An important piece of the puzzle that we've at least in theory dealt with very early which is a good sign. CB and AM have to follow now, all three really need to be in place in time for pre season as they are integral for Ange to work with. All other pieces are bonuses and imho I wouldn't be surprised if the bulk of the rest of the summer is spent focusing on shifting deadwood and tbh that is probably the most sensible thing to do. IF we get those three pieces right and shift a tonne of bilge, I'd make that a successful window that gives us a proper foundation to build on as Ange gets to grips with the league. Add another 1-2 in January and another 3 next summer and we're already a totally new team. No need to sign loads of players in one window. It rarely works.
A large chunk of the issue is Empoli's defence aren't clearing the ball after he makes his initial save, hence him having to make a double or even triple save - which is definitely the case in that Roma clip doing the rounds As for international experience, there is a little wrinkle there: he has been a regular in the Italy squad for the last 8-9 months, but he's not got off the bench, which at the very least puts him in the Christian Abbiati spot where he gets in the squad but has Gianluigi Buffon, Angelo Peruzzi and/or Francesco Toldo between him and the pitch - at worst makes him Ian Walker, so we have to hand over to Spurcat to judge the hairstyle
Apparently Newcastle are sailing close to their FFP limit, and have just splashed out £55m on Tonali, hopefully this gives us the edge for Maddison. I would love him to join, I like the way he plays and we are crying out for more creativity, he was made for Spurs in my opinion. Hopefully Vicario lives up to the praise, the last thing we need is another Gomes, Gazzaniga or Gollini, though £17m is lowish risk in today`s market.
Worst comes to the worst and Vicario turns out to be a dud then we can always attempt to go back for Raya in January or even next summer. It sounded like he wanted the move to us and there hasn’t been other clubs getting in with Brentford in the couple of days since our Vicario interest crystallised. Maybe they’ll crack towards the end of the window if another club comes in but it’s not looking likely now. I think Maddison is a great signing potentially. I’m a bit worried about his injuries (though that may not be an accurate perception) and he is a bit of a twat. But a very good player who fits what we need in that position.
