I don’t think there’s a role for him in Conte’s system. Like Reguilon he could move on and play in a flat back 4 and look better for someone else
One thing to mention about Milenkovic, given his name has come up again: he only has a year left on his contract, which certainly makes him look like a plate that Paratici is willing to spin if a CB is on the agenda
If you think of the CBs we have at the club (assuming Rodon is off) in terms of their position in the back 3 in order of suitability. Romero: RCB, CCB Dier: CCB, RCB Davies: LCB Sanchez: RCB, CCB Lenglet: LCB, CCB Tanganga: RCB, LCB I think it’s clear that we’re well stocked for RCB, with 3 who can play there more naturally and a 4th in a pinch. Certainly not a position where we’re desperate enough to try and convert Emerson to there. Where we lack is natural left footers, a third wouldn’t go amiss, particularly if they can also play centrally. I’m not entirely convinced Lenglet has the stature to do it, though he’s certainly good enough on the ball.
Sanchez at central centre back is a big no-no for me. Not commanding, not a leader, error prone and has the first touch of Lukaku.
No way should we be moving Romero. We did that last time and the defence went to pieces. We need to replace Rodon and use someone else there if we don't.
I’d probably bring in Lenglet for his passing ability, plus similar as PNP said I wouldn’t remove Romero from RCB too, he’s phenomenal there.
Sanchez in the middle gives me a big wobble though. Lenglet is good enough on the ball and also speaks Spanish and English like Dier, so would be a good communicator in the middle. I just worry about his physicality there, though I have to admit those worries could be unfounded, he’s just an unknown quantity in the PL.
In theory we have plenty of cover, however I wouldn't want to rely on Sanchez or Tanganga if Dier or Romero had a lengthy injury. I think we should loan out Tanganga, sell Sanchez and sign another senior RCB.
Adama Traore is reportedly sitting out the final year of his contract before leaving Wolves on a freebie next summer In other words, that at least spares us four weeks of being linked with him this summer...
Newcastle have bid £40million for James Maddison. It’s been rejected as Leicester want £60million. Spurs need a creative midfielder so wouldn’t be surprised if they’re keeping an eye on developments. Personally not a fan of him so not worried if he goes elsewhere.
