Paratici is busy in the kitchen, as not only do we have Bastoni on the go but, in the last twelve-ish hours we also have... - Pau Torres, in a cash + Lo Celso deal (per Skyte Italia) - Sven Botman (per Gianluca Di Marzio) - Kim Min-jae (per Ekrem Konur...yes, I think we can maybe look past this one)
I think Fraser Forster is a really sensible bit of business, he's a very solid number 2. I really hope we can get Bastoni over the line. I must admit I have only seen clips but he looks like a real class addition. Bastoni, Dier and Romero would be a formidable back 3 and can all ping a 30-40 yard accurate ball. A decent RWB and I think we can significantly close the gap on City and Liverpool.
Bastoni’s agent had a meeting with Inter earlier and there’s videos showing him entering Inter’s HQ. In recent minutes, his reps have confirmed he’ll stay at Inter according to Matteo Moretto. Would’ve been nice to sign him but I respect his decision to stay. We already know Paratici’s got a number of irons in fires anyway, whilst this one’s gone cold I’m sure he’ll now be trying to press forward with others. Pau Torres would probably be my pick, especially as we can kill two birds with one stone by bringing in a left footed CB and getting rid of Lo Celso.
Looks like Bastoni is likely off. On to Pau Torres, where we should be able to use GLC to sweeten the deal.
It's a shame but I won't lose too much sleep over it. The fact we know the player's stance even before the window's officially opened is a huge plus point, prevents us from chasing a player for weeks/ months only to then be left disappointed and we've now got plenty of time to pursue other targets - whom we more or less know Paratici has already been working on. There's a strong argument to say that the Torres-Lo Celso exchange deal is far better for the club anyway. Torres, like Bastoni, is also a very highly rated left footed CB and to get a big money flop out in the same deal feels like a double positive.
So Getafe have tweeted: Getafe Getafe Getafe En ese orden The latter means “in that order”. Bale’s recently been linked with them and this seems like a play on the “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order” banner that the Welsh players made Bale hold during a Wales game. There were rumours he and his family wanted to remain in Madrid so it looks a goer. Fair play to him, I’d have loved him back but I guess that ain’t happening and he’s joining a side that probably can’t pay him anything over £50k a week I’d imagine. Edit: Aaaaand maybe scrap that, Romano’s just tweeted saying Bale’s agent has said he doesn’t even have the Getafe president’s number
If Bastoni does develop upwards, then the usual suspects will outbid Spurs on transfer/wage offers if the time comes/ A deal for Torres that factors in a transfer for GLC seems most logical. If Spurs do not get rid, GLC is facing very little competitive game time in the months before WC 2022.
Totally agree DH. A bit gutting about Bastoni but fair play to the kid for wanting to carry on playing for his boyhood club. We move on and as you say Pau Torres is a very fine back up option and would make sense for both clubs to do a swap deal with Torres / Lo Celso. Torres can also fill in at CCB if Dier is out allowing the magnificent Ben Davies to come in.
Solid sensible signing. Loads of experience. Not the best with his feet but still a good back up for a couple of seasons.
