    Left field targets:

A Verona-based journalist claims we’ve offered Sess on loan plus £20m for Hellas Verona midfielder, Antonin Barak. Has an impressive 8 goals and 4 assists in 19 league games this season.

    27 year old Czech international.

Gianluigi Longari also says we’re interested in Genoa LWB, Andrea Cambiaso. Which could explain why the other journo in Verona is linking Sess with a move away(?).

Quite a no brainer to offer him that. We’ve saved on wages from last season as it is and getting any of the useless trio out the door would further aid the ability to offer that sort of wage.

But this is exactly why we can't easily do business early. Every player we want knows there is a possibility that one of the bigger clubs will come in for him and there is zero reason for them to sign for us until the window is nearly over.

That’s simply not true. If we’d offered the money and contract to Traore earlier on in the window, he’d be in a Spurs shirt by now. But by dallying about with haggling, plus the recent news that Dembele won’t be renewing his deal at Barca, Barca have now seemingly swooped in and got him immediately.

Without the 'haggling' where would we be? You seem to suggest we should just pay whatever is asked for a player on our list. It's very clear that most deals are done at the end of the windows and that's likely to be exactly what PS has described. We are a club on the fringe of the top that means the players we want will have aspirations to go to the very top, if you are Man U. or Liverpool or Chelsea it is much easier to sign these players because they have the recent track records and the money. Most of the time players will chose them over us so as a Spurs fan you will have to get used to us having greater difficulty in the transfer stakes until we get up there, if we get up there.

We’re talking about a player who is valued at £20m-£25m this window and playing at Wolverhampton Wonderers. Over three weeks into the window and we still hadn’t agreed a fee. £20m-£25m for a club of Tottenham’s size is nothing.

I don’t even want Traore so it doesn’t overly bother me if he joins or not but we’ve wasted three weeks on an average player from a smaller club that may now end up elsewhere.

You need to realise we’re not a small club, nor are we paupers.

I do realise that of course, but that's the point. We can spend 60 million on a player but the player has to want to come and if he thinks he can go to a 'bigger' club he will delay until that is not possible. This is the case with NDombele and Triore for example, both of whom have delayed waiting for the offer they want.

He wouldn’t have been delaying anything as personal terms were said to be agreed, Traore would’ve jumped at the chance to join us. Just as Grealish was willing to do so from his boyhood club.

The problem is us consistently trying to save a couple £m for too long that it ends up working to our detriment. Clubs either get fed up or other interested parties become available and swoop in, which is exactly what’s happening now.

Ornstien joining Romano by also saying the Traore deal is likely over for us.

You are ignoring the reality of these situations, it is simply not as easy as just throwing money at it UNLESS you are City or Chelsea and soon to be Newcastle who can just buy there way. We are not in that position it therefore requires more guile to land the players we want.

You’re talking as if Traore was going to break the bank.

Comparing us with City or Chelsea in this scenario has absolutely no bearing.

We’re talking about a player that Crystal Palace or Southampton could afford.

We messed this deal up. It’s as simple as that.

Missing out on the player doesn’t bother me one bit, wasting over three weeks of the window absolutely does.

Totally agree with this. Not bothered at all that he isn't coming. What bothers me more is that we have had two managers who have wanted him and it was apparently beyond the ability of the 12th biggest club in world football to back them with a middling bit-part player from a far smaller club.

Lewis Hamilton was brought in to drive a Ford Mondeo.

I'd love to see someone do a deepfake video where Daniel Levy sings "When I'm wasting windows" over the George Formby classic

Endless delays and about-turns does not equate to 'guile'. In most industries in the modern era the inability to operate quickly and decisively is looked at as incompetence.

Sorry Spurf, we are a club with a state of the art veneer running with the same approach and mentality we had 20 years ago. Other than fees and wages increasing slightly over the years, our definition of 'guile' remains unchanged, to the detriment of almost every manager we've ever employed, even the crap ones.

I am talking about the broad situation not just Triore. In his case as I said he got wind that Barca might be in for him and then he cooled and that brings us back to square one where you will say we should have just paid the price. No, we would soon be seen as a soft touch and up would go the price. We have to haggle and if that means we miss out then so be it. We weren't that keen , in this case anyway.

SLIGHTLY??? <laugh> I disagree with your use of slightly. With your proposed business model we would soon be broke.

No he wouldn’t have got wind because if we’d met the price within the first week or two of the window he’d be in a Spurs shirt and would’ve already played against Chelsea/ Leicester/ Chelsea again by now.

We wouldn’t be a soft touch at all, we’d be a club getting their business done and backing the manager with who he wants.

Though yet again, we’ve failed to do that. Welcome to Tottenham, Antonio.
