Southampton have apparently joined the race for Dele on loan, though his wages could be an issue for them.

I’ve said before, we’re likely gonna have to do an Adebayor with some of these players we want to boot out, their wages will prove an issue for many sides.

Some reports now saying the bid's been rejected and that Porto aren't going to entertain offers.

Well that's that then, was nice getting excited for an hour or two, back to facepalming the Traore signing <rofl>

If we've got multiple offers for Alli, then we shouldn't be looking too closely at his wages.
Pick the club that we think will get the best performances out of him and get him back on track.

This is a perfect example of Spurs in the last week of the window, bid for a player who has a specific value and offer considerably less and pretend that we are all surprised when it doesn't happen.

I am not saying that we shouldn't negotiate but 45m raising to 55m when the buy out is 80m is actually quite insulting to both club and player.

A buyout/release clause isn’t necessarily the true value of the player though. It’s a safety mechanism for both the player and the club in question. Clubs can sell below the buyout clause, indeed they may be willing to if they’re in financial difficulty, but they just don’t have to. I don’t see the harm in making what we consider to be a fair (and substantial) offer for a player we like if the club is in financial difficulty. At the same time I’m not surprised to see an initial bid rejected, if indeed that’s what’s happened.

I don't think so. He ran around like a lunatic for Espirito Santo, despite playing out of position.
If a club use a system that suits him, then I think he could return to form.
Attacking midfielders seem to be going out of fashion, though. More so for non-creative ones.

Yeah it feels a little like groundhog day, seen it so many times over the years; Window nears its end, Spurs finally linked with a big money signing but it falls to pot and the whole "we tried" signal does the rounds. We had 24 days to make this bid and get negotiations started, by now we would've signed him or realised his price was too high and moved on to a new target.

Lilywhite Rose made a cynical point too in that if the club's monitoring social media channels at the moment and seeing the negative feedback for Traore/ Amrabat deals as well just general unrest, leak a story to the press of a big money move for a player to keep the fans sweet.

Running around like a lunatic didn't equate to great performances though.

I don't see him ever getting back to where he was at in his first two Spurs seasons, partly because I think he's taken his eye off of football for too long but mainly because he won't go to a side that has a Dembele and Eriksen equivalent. Both of those got the best out of Dele, without them he's played like what you'd generally expect a player coming from MK Dons would look like in the Premier League.

Spanish and Portuguese buyouts are not based on value though. It's just a ruse to give the impression that the player can leave.

He played fairly well, but he was on the left of a midfield three.
    Wildly unsuited to that role.

I don't think that he needs to join a side with players as good as Eriksen and Dembele.
He could join Brentford, though! <laugh>
Playing behind a striker and being given some service could do it, in my opinion.

So, if Conte played out and out wingers (rather than wing backs), or Sonny hadn't just signed a new long term deal...and we sell Bergwijn...and don't buy Diaz....you get my scepticism.

I've no problem that he's a talented youngster, but he's at a club with no great history of developing such foreign players and a coach who doesn't have a particularly significant history of playing such young players. If he's going to progress at Spurs, it'll be in a post-Conte era, but my money's firmly that he'll be back in Spain soon...and will stay there.

I think you're being generous even saying he played fairly well.

Just don't see it, I don't see him being able to play the way he did in the early years for us with other teams. Been more or less dreadful whenever he played for England and has been dreadful for us for about four years. Despite our failings in recent seasons, he's likely not going to a join a side with as good players as what we have/ had. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in the MLS/ China/ Middle East come the summer window.

Sky are now saying that we offered €45m+10m in add-ons for Diaz and they want €60m.
Seems far too close to be real.
