He would definitely tick a lot of boxes for what Spurs need. Loan deal in January would be ideal. Fwiw I think he will stay at Barca and become a key player under Xavi.
Reports claiming Dele will be allowed to leave but likely to be a loan as the club doesn’t expect our purchase valuation to be met… I mean someone must have £10m surely? (COME ON NEWCASTLE!!!) And apparently we still have some interest in Adama Traore… Seriously we just never ****ing learn. Reports in Italy still claim we want Vlahovic, whilst Milenkovic’s name popped up again despite signing a new deal in the summer.
Gleison Bremer's name keeps popping back up, so either there's some truth to this or merely Foot Mercato (or whoever) have a bug in their system and it keeps spewing out the same transfer rumour every 3-4 days
In terms of January outgoings, the easiest way to look at it is look for the players Conte has either made no mention of, or if he has it isn't positive Dele is the most obvious example because I can't recall Conte mentioning him once, and the fact Bergwijn has been spoken of as an option up top ahead of his screamed volumes Ndombele is the other, given Conte almost immediately told him to play for the team rather than his highlight reel, although given the fees involved he'll only budge either on loan or in a player swap Doherty is possibly on the list as I can't recall Conte speaking positively of him, but I'm more including him due to Tanganga being picked as a RWB ahead of him Other than that, everyone else in the squad has had at least one example of Conte either making them a key component of what he wants the team to be, praising them, or saying he's looking forward to working with them
According to Italian journalist, Fabio Santini, Conte is crazy about Insigne and wants him as early as January (he’s a freebie in the summer), Insigne also apparently flattered about the interest. YES. BLOODY. PLEASE!
Not sure how anyone can look at a squad including Son Heung-min, Bryan Gil and Steven Bergwijn and decide "Hmm, needs a left winger"
Transfermarkt free transfer list: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/endendevertraege We've been linked with a few on there and I suspect some will get sewn up soon. Sardar Azmoun was strongly linked with a €3m January move to Lyon the other day, for example.
One of them’s a goner though and the other a prospect who I also think long term will be a number ten, or worst case a backup LW. I think Son can also easily shift to the right without a drop in his performances/ output. A Son, Kane, Insigne front three is pretty sexy.
Yeah I said the other day the free transfers this summer are crazy, you can probably make a league winning/ title challenging team from the talent that’ll be available. I definitely hope we look at a good few, Paratici had a fetish for them back at Juve so hopefully that bodes well.
There's a track record of coaches thinking Son can cut it as a RW, but it never sticks: Sami Hyppia tried it at Leverkusen in 2013-13, and Poch tried it with us in 2015-15, and both times he reverted to the left wing the following season It's also worth pointing out that he's played as a RW five times in the past three seasons, four times in the league and once for the South Korean NT, while in that timeframe he's played 45 times as a CF (22 of those internationally), so there's really no basis of thinking he can play RW
We can not keep complaining about a lack of squad depth and competition for places and then say we already have players in X position. Bergwijn ain't delivered, is not delivering and will never deliver so needs to leave. Nothing personal but that's the reality. I know nothing re Gil other than he ain't impressed so far. So imho another left wing would be a welcome addition...at least we won't drive Son into the ground every season.
The problem is that would leave us with two left wingers wanting starts while not addressing the right wing which is where we do need an upgrade on Lucas, or more importantly central midfield where we have clearly needed somebody to transition us from defence to attack since it was obvious that Ndombele is only good on FIFA
Serie A Rando Watch Today it's Bologna's Swedish CM Mathtias Svanberg, who can best (if somewhat lazily) be described as a more creative Hojbjerg, and Bologna appear to be keen to cash in
EVERY long term successful team needs 2 top quality players per position. Without that injuries are more likely and we are effectively held hostage to poor form...it's was / is what has damaged us since 2019.
Really, they don't Long-term successful teams need a top player and a reliable understudy who can come in when the first choice is being rested, for example the likes of Wes Brown, John O'Shea or Johnny Evans covering for Vidic and Ferdinand at Man Utd, Giroud covering for numerous strikers at Chelsea, etc etc etc Nouveau riche teams who are struggling to comprehend why splurging vast sums of money on multiple strikers in a system that only requires one and getting next to no use out of most of them, which is what happened when The Sheikh Mansour Team splurged on Negredo and Jovetic in spite having Aguero and Dzeko already there, they're the ones who think you need two first team-worthy players in each position, and they're also the ones who tend to make huge losses on the players who want out because they aren't playing due to being stuck behind an established first team player
Reliable understudies need to be very good players otherwise the team performance decreases significantly when the understudy plays. Look at at our current understudy keeper. Or our understudies in defence...or midfield...they aren't very good as the away results against Pacos and Mura demonstrate better than my words do. This is why we need two top quality players per position. You do not need to beak the bank to get top quality players either. Llorente was a top quality player as was Trippier, Dele, Wimmer, Wanyama...these are off the top of my head....none came more than £10-12m.
