I think DH made a really good point a few days back when he said you should ignore any approach from City at this stage. The season literally starts tomorrow and they have had plenty of time to put in a serious bid for Kane. They've chosen not to, presumably because they anticipated that Kane would throw his toys out the pram and try hard to force a move (which it doesn't seem like he did). So they either have to move on to other targets or accept the squad they have. Selling Kane now leaves you with virtually no time to sort the situation for the start of the campaign.
Didn't work with Janssen or Rose. Ultimately the players are human and if there are no potential destinations they consider right for themselves or (often more importantly) their families, they'll simply sit tight and continue earning a very nice salary for doing nothing. That's the issue right now. Sissoko and Aurier are massive risks who are available for free next summer. Very few clubs have enough spare cash to take such risks. I'm hoping we'll at least agree loans for them tbh. Not getting my hopes up for much more. Sanchez, Winks and Dele are those more likely to attract some sort of fee. But I don't think the latter two have any interest in leaving.
That's true for the Europa Conference but I think it's only 15 for domestic competitions as Rodon and Davies are home grown for those.
Just getting their wages off the payroll would be a bonus, even if it means taking a nominal or no fee. Better than paying them for a year for them to leave on a free
The issue is if he really, genuinely wants out and Paratici feels that now is the time to take advantage of teams desperate to shed players (Inter, Barca, Real etc.) and accelerate the rebuild, hardballing them does make sense...IF we have replacements lined up (currently Vlahovic and Martinez seem to be that) and ready to go. If City fail to beat us on Sunday, their bargaining position will become even more desperate and I wouldn't be surprised if the supposed incoming bid of £130m rise to £150m, which in all honesty i don't think we'll turn down. Also, if part of the rebuild can be fast-tracked by including PL-proven players in the deal (wouldn't say no to any of Silva, Laporte or Cancelo) it makes even more sense to just get this over and done with. If for arguments sake we go into Sept without Kane but with Martinez, Vlahovic, Laporte and Silva, I think most if not all Spurs fans will make peace with it. But I agree in principle; City's arrogance throughout has been despicable. Worse still the national media seem hell-bent to portray them as some sort of pitiful misunderstood victim of bullying.
Neither do they. They also don't have De Bruyne or Foden. I don't think we'll win but a draw given home advantage isn't inconceivable.
Yeah, yeah...people said that when we sold Berbatov with an hour left of the window....and Levy still got a replacement...in a season long loan of Frazier Campbell.
Because that's entirely how the situation played out, rather than having to give in to a kidnapper's demands...
They’re lucky that Barca and Real Madrid can’t afford him or else they’d be losing out on him and he would have to either stay at Spurs or go abroad
Agreed. If he plays it will be because he is staying. No way will he be selected if he has made it clear he wants to join them.
Yeah it’s a weird one. If say we had the chance to sign one AND keep Kane, I’d pick Martinez as I think that could be a great partnership of players with different styles and attributes. But if we knew Kane was definitely leaving and could only sign one, I’d pick Vlahovic as I think he’s closer to Kane in style and I think that mould of striker is best suited to the Prem when playing the lone role.
The more this goes on, the more I'm wanting to see Levy stick two fingers up at City. £200m, cash, all in advance, or F off! Add £10m to that for every day that they don't offer a fee that meets it. I feel a little for Nuno in all of this, the levels of disrespect by all is very evident, and I hope that he somehow manages to pull off an unexpected win this weekend, without Harry Kane. This assumption that Spurs must bend over and allow Man City to enter without lube from the rear, both on the pitch and off, messing up the entire start of the season is baffling to me. F them! Everybody, rightly, baulked at the idea of Super League, but the very greed and entitlement that gave birth to the idea is very present here and watching it be willed on by the majority of media, as if the two aren't clearly and directly related, is just weird now. Pep is moving like Thanos, collecting infinity stones, and people are responding as if he is a hero!
