...........have we we really had since we came back down from the Prem the first time? Up front after the Lambert/Revell/Gounongbe/Madine/Doyle era, we now have Moore who's looking to put that right. Out wide, you tell me. NML blew hot and cold, but the rest have been average at best - Murphy hardly even rates that. In the middle of the park I can't think of any at all. Tomlin in injury-free patches, but that's about all. At the back, Bamba, Morrison and now probably Nelson come to mind. Best forget Halford and Jazz. At keeper Etheridge was a good find. Despite his recent blips, I rate Smithies as well - Phillips? - the jury's still out for me. I may be missing something here, but when was the last time we brought someone in, developed them and sold them on for a profit?
Off the top of my head City made a few bob on Cameron Jerome, Jordan Mutch and Roger Johnson. Sadly compared to those down west we’ve been hopeless in that type of market. Murphy and Glatzel are just two current examples of not likely to get any decent return.
Its been a significant failing of ours. It shouldnt just be about the signings we developed and sold as a profit though. Also those we bought relatively cheaply and became a mainstay. Hmmm, still a bit thin on the ground. Whitts and......
I suppose Dai Marshall was a "success" financially after his epic season between the sticks the first time we went up. Signed by Dai Jones for peanuts before we went up, and sold (by Slade?) for something like 5 mill to Hull after we came down. I think we wanted a lot more for him but took what was on offer for the dosh at the time.
Not quite sure how that happened though. When a move was first mooted he was at his peak. When it happened he was sliding down the other side. Thinking about bargains we kept, McNaughton.
Ken just didnt want it enough. Loads of ability. If you had Pattersons heart and Kens Talent youd be looking at a high class PL playerm
