Yohan Cabaye £5,000,000
Gabriel Obertan £3,000,000
Davide Santon £5,300,000
Robert Elliot £100,000
Papiss Cisse £10,000,000
James Perch £1,000,000
Ismael Tioté £3,500,000
Hatem Ben Arfa £5,750,000

Total: £33,650,000

Who would have thought we would spend that much over two seasons since we got back to the PL, huh?

And that doesn't even include the frees:

Mehdi Abeid
Sylvain Marveaux
Dan Gosling
Demba Ba

Yes we've made some incredibly astute signings and grabbed some bargains, but we have combined it with actually spending quite a bit of dosh, and I don't think a lot of fans of other clubs realise that and end up underestimating the quality in our side.

Pards is building up a decent squad of players after what he inherited when he arrived here. The club is in the best financial state its been in for a long time and our scouting network is second to none. Come summer more players who need to be shipped out will be and replaced by better ones.
We are sitting well in the Premiership ( probably better than most would have predicted at the start of the season } and we are looking at tying up a few contracts of players we need to keep.
I look forward to the coming few seasons as AP continues the squad building of our great club.

Thats refreshingly positive, i agree, our team will only get better over time.

would i be right in saying:

Carr:
Yohan Cabaye £5,000,000
Davide Santon £5,300,000
Papiss Cisse £10,000,000
Ismael Tioté £3,500,000
Hatem Ben Arfa £5,750,000
Mehdi Abeid
Sylvain Marveaux

Pardew:
Robert Elliot £100,000
Gabriel Obertan £3,000,000

Hughton (well Calderwood):
James Perch £1,000,000

Debateable:
Dan Gosling
Demba Ba

How do we know these were Pardew's choices?

I think Obertan is widely considered Pardew's choice because of his relationship with SAF & it was against the grain of how Carr seems to work.

Elliot I think because we got him from Charlton? I would also give credit for Ba to Pards also.

These players weren't really hidden gems though, a lot of people knew about them.

Cissé - 9 million
Cabaye - 4.3 million
Ben Arfa - 7 million ( We paid 2 million to loan him and 5 to make it permanent )

I think them are the correct prices.

Santon
Cabaye
Cissé
Tiote
Ben Arfa
Ba

6 players who could probably play for a few of the top 6 clubs.

A few of the other top 6 clubs you mean

that was my logic yeah. On second thoughts yeah, Ba's gotta be a Pards choice, courtesy of his Hammers connections

Unless we're gonna give Llamearse credit for getting Cabaye and Ben Arfa...

Exactly, the random guesswork of our transfers almost always works out to:

Good players: The guy we like at the time
Bad players: Ashley/Llambias/new manager who we don't like for a bit...
