So Bonne had passed his medical and was set to leave, we obviously thought we were getting someone else in but didn't so cancelled Bonne's departure. Not good, probably means we won't be getting in one who is a free agent either then.
What happens when Willock or Chair are injured ? We've already seen what happens without Willock, we aren't the same team. We've needed a striker in for a long time and haven't addressed the issue. Everyone knows that Dykes/Bonne and Armstrong combined will do well to get 10 goals. Roberts isn't the answer he ain't a goal poacher, I'd rather see Willock up top, at least he's calm infront of goal. He passes the ball into the net and doesnt lash erratically at the ball like alot do.
Do you honestly believe we'll ever see our possible strongest 11 ever together on the pitch ? Ain't gonna happen, too many fragile bodies there. Tim is DM and good cover for Field , Amos I like alot but he'll never play 100 games in his career unfortunately ! Richards god knows, injured before making debut doesn't bode well and is not a striker anyway more a creator, we should've sorted this out so long ago. Beale knows we needed a focal point upfront and a back up left back, the board needed to get them in, there are free agents out there that could've been got and would've made the difference to mid table or top 6. It's eerily similar to what happened in January's window and what happened with Warburton. We need to be very lucky with our key players and pray they don't pick up long term injuries.
Big thing for me this window is we have kept our key players Willock, Chair, Dieng and have brought some promising young players in, Laird and Paal doing very well already. Dykes is due a hot spell and we do have other options at striker with Bonne and Armstrong staying as far as I know. Haven't been too impressed by Roberts so far, but he's not played much. Beale says he was brought in as a 9, and he's got a lot right so far so let's hope he's right on Robert's too.
I do admire your optimism pal but Dykes is mildred and always will be. Bonne is league 1 standard and Armstrong needs games under his belt. Roberts ain't a goalscorer, look at his misses for Leeds their akin to Dykes. Hopefully he can nab a few and set up a few but we desperately needed a goalscorer and a left back. Injuries to Willock or Chair and either full back especially Paal, would leave us in a grim state. We've seen what happens when Willock is out, it's like someone's blown out the candle, get the prayer mats out and hope we get some serious luck on the injury front. We are due some
Tim sounds like he could be good competition for anyone of those midfield places if he can play as a 6 or an 8 as Beale was saying.
It's a fickle world being a footy fan, all based on opinions. Personally, I'm yet to hear a strikers name mentioned that we could afford, even on a free, they demand such high wages due to no transfer fee. Yes we will be lucky to get 10 goals from Dykes but we are scoring goals from other positions on the pitch. We have been playing with two no.10s who are on fire these last couple of games. Our error last season was not having any suitable replacements for those 2, rather than not having a striker. In Roberts and Richards I believe we have those areas covered. I do agree that the left back situation isn't perfect and that would have been a priority for me but who is going to loan us a player who isn't going to play unless Paal is injured. Who would we sign, even half decent to warm a bench?
Jesus ****ing Christ!! We're all doomed! What if this wonderful goal machine that you seem to think is around every corner were to get injured? We haven't got the budget to cover all eventualities. In fact, probably only Citeh have done that. Even Liverpool have struggled due to injuries. I'm just relieved we didn't lose anyone in this window.
The absolute meltdown from some fans over not signing a striker, particularly on Twitter, is ridiculous. As others have said keeping Willock, Chair, Dieng, Dickie etc is bigger than any signing and that coupled with 6 decent signings is a pretty good window in my book. We were never going to get a 20+ goal striker, we don't even play that way. Dykes has scored 9 and 12 in his two seasons so far, current confidence issues aside he'll be good for similar again. We've already proved there's goals in this team and that's before Roberts, Richards and even Armstrong have contributed. Also there's still plenty of talk about free agents so it might not even be over yet. More concerned about not getting LB cover than a striker tbh.
